yeah i know it`s cool when you see stars, sun ocean. from skys and clouds more closer i miss that feeling:(
-
Lemme Guess, RAAF right?
-
no
-
:nervous: erm please disregard ny last post...
i neglected to look at your location thingy...
-
Migs i think
Like the mig-21/29 fulcrum. The Fulcrum is damn cool. Also the SU-37 damn cool.
-
Er, what about the MiGs, o great Darkage? Nobody mentioned anything about them..
-
I've been requested to fly for the BlitzJ clan in BF1942, and they're hard to beat...
I've also been asked as to wether I've flown for a real life airforce before because of my flying skills in the game...
The answer though, is still no. I've not. Hurrah!
-
I'm training to get my pilot's liscence in Real Life, pretty damn good at it, too! :D
-
Great UT in an aircraft..Something tells me he'll give a whole new meaning to the term "terror in the skies":p
-
My brothers becoming a passanger airline pilot. He says its really cool! Gonna go and film some stuff at the hangar one day. Maybe I'll pop it online, cause the same airfield and school they go to is the same where they train airforce pilots here. :D
-
I rather fancy getting a private pilot's licence, but it's so prohibitively expensive.

i playing BF1942 game i like it every time we play it with my friends i all ways fly plane one time we playd it i got best kill scores now when i play it all fear me :D
-
I play IL-2 Sturmovik: Forgotten Battles!
eh... meh nevermind :p
-
Ooh yea, I'd like to have a private pilots licence but as stated allready... it's too damn epencive :doubt:
Oh well... FS2002 and IL-2 + Saitek x45 should be sufficient for now :p
-
what's the limit for eye problems?
i thought it was +3 to-3 DPT, right?
-
Ahh, there's another problem. My sight is damn near perfect (I can read a car number plate at quite a distance), but my eyes are not.
Occasionally, the upper left corner of my vision in both eyes starts to flicker. I can only cure it by pressing on my eyelids, and then I end up with a blind spot for about 10 minutes.
-
well, my sight ain't much, i can't see depth, and my eyes aren't reliable either.
i'm not gonna be a pilot, i'm afraid
-
It's a bugger, isn't it?
I'll have to find some other way to take to the skies, like some sort of jet pack.;7
-
find a skillful girlfriend, that works, too.
-
My eyesight is perfect.
My health is perfect.
My reflexes are perfect.
My condition is miserable...I drop dead after 6-7 miutes of running..
I can't be a pilot then...:sigh:

Yay! I play IL-2 Sturmovik! :D

:blah: Don't mean to be ruse or anything, but you should really work on that then. Cause 7 minute run is like... no condition at all.
-
uhm, i usually run 3.3 km in the weekends, takes me 18minutes. kinda bad, i think.

I have an IQ of 145...I'm smart, fairly good looking, tall, in good phisical shape (everything apart from condition), I can speak several languages perfecty, I can play on a piano, etc..etc...)
I CAN'T HAVE EVERYTHING! GIMME A BREAK I'M NOT PERFECT!
*hides from shame*
-
well your health can't be that good if you can't run more than 6 minutes...
-
How fast can you run a mile?
I did it in 8:30, but I walked a lap (it was spaced out over several)
-
height also is a determining factor if you want to be a fighter pilot. Also, the ability to concentrate on many things at once. IE, keeping an eye on instruments, while controling you're ailerons, looking around you, communicating, calculating, and if you're a fighter pilot, trying to keep one step ahead of your enemy in tactics and looking for new bogies. Alot to think about while flying...
-
Height isn't THAT big a thing. Unless you are abnormally small/tall, then it isn't really a huge thing.
-
Well, its not a huge thing, but it does get considered. They usually have the ideal height and they pick people who are closest to that. But only in the Air Force. To become a normal pilot, its not an issue.
-
If I had better eyesight I would have joined the RCAF months ago, but the bastards wont let you fly, even if you get laser eye surgery....
-
I probably have the crappiest sight of the board ( 0 D on left eye and 6 on right eye ), and I can't run for long either. you can say my parents screwed up ( no pun intended :p ) when they did me.
plus I've wasted my right ankle when I was 7 or 8.
I guess I can't be a pilot :D

bah, the swedish defence doesn't want me for anything unless I get eye surgery, and I don't really have *that* bad sight.
-
I have perfect eyesight. I'm pretty short. I love jets.
I'm applying for the fleet air arm as soon as I can get my bank manager to sort his life out

Venom, lower = better :D :p
Anyways, when I was in my mom's womb, I would kick whenever we went on a plane, then, in the later years, I went on an open-cockpit biplnae almost every birthday for about birthday for about 4 years, flew my first plane at around 11, then started training for my liscence at 13., so I have a head start :D, I'm a medium height, in good physical condition (just don't have a high endurance, but it's acceptable)
-
endurance can always be increased!
It sounds like you were born to fly! :D

her... no, unless we have a different measure system in France.
-
20/20 is perfect vision.. so higher = better...
-
it goes:
distance at which you can see something / distance at which a good eye can see something
usually measured in feet
i'm something like 20/15
edit:
Gloriano: did you fly the F-15J?
-
Hey, something's been bugging me for awhile now: does the US Navy/Air Force not allow nose art anymore?
I'm just curious, as I never see any....
-
Ever see pictures of the A-10?
I think its more tail art now though... some of those squadron logos are pretty spiffy...
-
never seen one of those Tiger arts contests? :)
-
No, I mean personal art on a plane that's still on active duty, not squadron art.
-
My brother was joining the RAF, he went through all the physicals and exams and stuff, passed them all but when it came to the "your in just sign here" bit he decided to drop it and do it again after he had "lived his life"
So he went ski repping in italy for 4 months, then went around the world for 6, came home went back to italy to ski for anouther 3, now hes living in tokyo teaching english, come home arouund christmas, but then leaves again to move out to italy to manage a resort ...
As you can tell i havnt seen much of my brother lately :D
And now for the brits around here, any one remeber "Harrys Mad" a childrens program on ITV some years ago about a talking parrot, the main character (Harry) was played by my brotherm hes done some other actingas well, along with a dany davito(sp?) film, dont remember the name, Yes he is loaded the little ***** :doubt:
-
I was going to join the RAF to be a pilot, aircraft being one of my favourite things. But something fubared my eyesight, so im slightly shortsighted. Which means im either going to join the Royal Armoured Corps, or the police.
-
That something would be your parents at birth right? :p
-
Nope, it could be the computer moniter.
-
i doubt it, i was short sighted from birth, and using comps hasnt made it worse, infact its slowely getting better
-
I only got shortsighted in Y9 slightly.
-
True, the slightest thing wrong with you and the RAF is a no no, then again they have that many applicant they can afford tobe picky :p
The almost dropped my brother cause he has mild hay fever (next to nothing now mind), i was just like, "yeah 'cause there is lots of flowers in your cock-pit"
-
I've never had an eye test, so I don't know how good my eyesight actually is, but I assume it to be very good. I just have the problems with bright lights, and terrible hayfever/rhinitis, which means a lot the time my eyes are completely ****ed up.
Damned sinus!

Well of course it depends on a lot of things (weather, allergies, sleep) but the best I've been able to do is 7 flat, which isn't too fast considering. I don't get a lot of practice though, so i've probably gotten worse since the 3 months ago I go that.
-
Sure. When I'm in my Roadmaster and I floor that sucka, baby flies.
Just like a cow.
-
:wtf:
-
Licking toads again?
-
Apparently this thread's become some sort of tell-how-fast-you-run thing so I'm going to derail it further and ask if any of you run/ran the 440yd/400m? I can run that in like 68ish...
-
We should make a HLP flight sim tournament! We pick the sim, then fly and fight! ;7
-
I can walk a mile in just over fifteen minutes. Don't know how fast that translates to running, as I've never had cause to find out.
-
I have extremely nearsighted vision (about 20/180 right and 20/200 left; seems to be a genetic thing), short-to-average height (5'5"), fairly quick reflexes and can run fast but tire out very quickly (never ran a mile without tiring out halfway through and walking the rest of the way). I probably would not be much of a pilot and would be much more effective building prototype fighter designs instead. :p :D

Erm... nope. 20/20 is average eyesight, You need 20/15 to be an airforce pilot/astronaut IIRC.
-
CP: You can complain. 20/500 and counting.:p
I think 20/15 is farsighted, dude. You're thinking 25/25
-
25/25 would be bad. 20/15 or 20/10 is good. Lower = better IIRC
-
Yeah. Let me see if I can find something saying the requirements.
Hmm... Apparently NASA isn't as picky as I thoughtAbility to pass a NASA Class I space physical, which is similar to a military or civilian Class I flight physical, and includes the following specific standards: for vision-distance visual acuity - 20/70 or better uncorrected, correctable to 20/20, each eye. For Blood Pressure-140/90 measured in a sitting position.
But still you see 20/70 is bad, they need to get it down to 20/20. Anything lower is simply icing on the cake.
In case anyone wants to view other reqs for NASA:
http://www.spaceflight.nasa.gov/shuttle/reference/factsheets/asseltrn.html
-
What the hell you need good eyes for in NASA? Most you'll be staring at is a couple dozen dials two inches from your face. Just need to be perceptive, have quick reflexes, and be expendable. They throw in all that other **** because, hell, they've only got a couple shuttles, what the fuck are they gonna do with 200 qualified astronauts?
-
With #/# The 1st number refers to the distance you were from the test chart, which is usually 20 feet. The 2nd number represents the distance that a person with normal eyesight could read the line with the smallest letters that you could correctly read. If your visual acuity is 20/100 that means that the line you correctly read at 20 feet could be read by a person with normal vision at 100 feet. So the lower the second number the better.
BTW, NASA has the most over-qualified group of truckers in the universe.
