Particularly for the CB and misc other files they used for animations, if they still have them.
I'll certainly email them about it, but if someone who's chummy with an employee there (that Dave guy ppl keep taking about) and they talk to him. That would possible be better for the cause.
[EDIT] Forgot about models! Mostly the Vasudan and Shivan ones :)
-
Do you mean the ship models in the CBs and such? I don't get what exactly you're asking for.
-
that and the other stuff they would have used for the ani's and cutscenes. But like I said they most likely don't have them anymore. But hey it's worth a shot.
-
I dunno really... we have the ship files, we have a Shivan, what else do we need? Or more specifically what else can we get. Remember, the cutscenes in FS1 were made by Interplay.
-
Well it would be nice to have the master map file they used to create the command briefing ani's. Then we'd have a full map, but also a 3d on too.

Really?! I thought Volition did them. I guess I was wrong.
Well anyway, I guess it's just the CB stuff, a vasudan, and a shivan.

couldn't hurt to ask,
...and have them say no
-
[color=66ff00]I'd not hold your breath though.
*remember's DaveB's thoughts of members of HLP*
:sigh:

Huh?.... never saw that..
-
he didn't like some comments about the crash of the columbia shuttle.
-
ah.... those comments...
-
Not that anybody rethought their attitude after Dave left... :sigh:
-
glad I wasnt around for that..
Interplay didnt make the videos for FS.. they just encoded them...

[color=66ff00]I think the whole affair was a bit flippant, both the remarks made and the fact that DaveB left because of it. Anyhow it's done with now and I can pretty much guarantee you that help from volition will be zero to none. It's a pity it was due to something so stupid (not the event, the way it was discussed).

Well we could try getting people at VWBB or F2S to ask. DaveB might not be of the opinion that the people on those boards are a bunch of s**theads.
-
I wish I had the weapon models so I could make full animated loadout art for the FS1 weapons in the Port.

Oh, christ. Grow up. Adult men do not hold multiple-year-long grudges over stupid ****, particularly against the majority of their fanbase due to a few people saying something dumb they don't approve of. What, you're gonna get a response like "No, you made fun of Columbia, I hate you all!"? Hell, I'd me mildly surprised if he even remembered it. I wouldn't.
Doesn't mean they'll help you anyway. This would mark about the dozenth time someone's requested those files, and that's just the ones I know about.

And how many times did people ask for the source?
As for the Columbia thing, you're asking the guy for a favour that may take several hours of his time depending on how organised [V] are. Now while I'd do that for someone I liked and was friendly with if someone who had previously pissed me off asked I'd probably tell them that we no longer had them.
There's a difference between holding a grudge and deciding that you aren't going to go out of your way to help someone you don't like.

From what I recall that's been the responce each time anyways. Perhaps they actually don't have them. Honestly,.. if you were a game developer, would you archive games years after it's a known fact that you'll never continue the series?
Don't get me wrong,...it'd be kickass to get the files,... it's just highly unlikely.

Well I would but then I'm a bit anal about keeping any file that I may have a use for later (You should see my model drawer for TS. I have over 70 versions of each ship in different stages of being built :) )
I seem to vaguely remember the same excuse was used for why they didn't do a source code release at one point and we all know how that ended up! :)

Er... those hires models take hours- or days- to do. They're one-of-a-kind, and exceedingly useful if the creator ever has to find another job (which will invariably happen), as a good company model sample is great resume fodder. Also, Titus or whoever owns them now would have an interest in preserving those files just in case. All of which are well worth a couple megs of space on a hard disk or CD.
Kara: Er... that was two or three people, not the entire community as a whole. And it was also his fanbase. But whatever. There's no point in hypothesizing, and at this point I don't particularly care. I'd like to get my hands on one or two of those meshes, but right now... well, it'll either happen or it won't.

Wow I have more posts then Stryke 9! :eek2:
Well I'm going to compose an email tomorrow. Good night ppl.
-
Highlight the title, boy. I probably have actually racked up almost as many as Venom by now.
-
I think that if we can actually get in contact with one of the Volition guys (i.e. have them respond), we have a fairly good chance at obtaining this stuff, but that part is very unlikely. Also, it might still be Interplay property as I think those hi-poly vasudan and shivan models were.

Bummer about models, but I'd just be happy for some internal documents and/or templates on how they did some of those effects they had in CB and loadout ani's.

You mean your post count has been messed with? Or are you adding other forums to you count?
[Thought] Anyone here have an email address I could give the guys at V to send the stuff to since Yahoo only allows 10MB attachments and I only have 25 MB of space there. Because I don't think they'll put them on a server for anyone to download, and I won't have high speed internet access until at least August. Or I'll just wait until then...

Admins can alter any part of your profile - including the ones you wouldn't think of, like post count and date of registry. At least, that's what I know of vB.
I don't hold high hopes for getting any of this stuff, but it's stupid not to ask. :nervous:
