Title: Which has better music?
Post by: TopAce on June 12, 2003, 04:27:19 pm
A stupid-looking topic:

Which game has better music which one's do you like better? My vote is FS1's because I think they can give the true 'FreeSpace feeling'

Please do not have a look at those technically, we know FS2 takes the palm that point.

Edit: Although fs2 had a few good tracks (Revelation and brief04) I thought all of fs1'a tracsk were great.

FS2, no question, especially the briefing musics.

It's been said by someone before, but--

FS1 music was more eeirie, more dynamic, and it gave you a feel that you were fighting an unstobbable enemy.

FS2 music was more like fighting a war on equal terms with less eerie, dynamicness, and more action (although less music in general)

Punctuation is your friend.

And I said nothing about the shivans being less powerful than they were in FS1, I just said that the music doesn't hint to that as much as FS1's did.

You aren't even fighting the shivans for half of FS2.

What KT said.

Atmosphere: FS1

By itself: FS2

I voted FS2.

That's like, t3h tr4ck.

Freespace 1 hands down. Brief1 and Battle9... nothing like it.

FS2 without a doubt. I always listen to music from both while FREDding but when I made myself a greatest hits playlist more that 75% of it was from FS2.

Hell I can listen to Brief01 or Brief04 or permenent loop for ages while FREDding

Overall, I'll have to vote FS, some of the briefing and in game music is just well . . . great. That said, their are several pieces of FS2 music which are better.

I thought that I am the only man who loves FS1's music better. I was mistaken, again.

Thanks for all those who have voted yet, and for those are deciding to do it.

Freespace 1 had M8-Normal 3... :shiver:
god I loved that one, the one where you're supporting the fleeing Vasudans in that three node system after Vasuda Prime got blasted??
loved the briefing too, it seemed so....hopeless, you know?

"it is estimated that over four billion innocent vasudans lost their lives" or something, it actually made me feel bad for them :)

[EDIT] But then, FS2 had FS2-Cinema :)
I've left that on at school and listened to it for whole periods, the "vocals" or choir or whatever you want to call it gets me everytime, and just the feel of it rocks...especially when it breaks out into that fast thing at 1:26 blah blah bl-
*gets nabbed by the Cartoon Hook*

FS2 music is very good, but FS1 music has more of a feeling of despair to it.  Brief1 or whatever it is pwnz0rz

FS2 music sounds better (duh), but for sheer atmosphere, you can't beat FS1. It sounds so much more desparate, like you haven't got a hope in hell of surviving against the Shivans. Terrific stuff. Somebody should re-make them in high-quality audio so's I can stick 'em into FS2.

I also think that the atmosphere through FS1 is generally better than FS2. I don't quite know why, but you just feel so alone in most of the missions, and you feel so much smaller than you do in FS2. Very cool.

Here's a novel concept.  Try editing the music table in FS2 to use FS1 music files.  I found the result quite interesting and I used at least two FS1 music files in chapter 2 of my campaign.
Title: Which has better music?

I did it, too. But I cannot use all musics in FS2, only nine are allowed. Surely the engine cannot handle more.

Post by: phreak on June 13, 2003, 06:11:06 pm
fso can handle up to 25

ohhh yeah! fs2_btl-B1 and fs2_btl-D1!!! wow, D1 has that "oh ****, this isn't good" sort of mounting thing and B1 is just B1 man, sorta like taking a running battle home to the enemy, or something :D

pointless

FS2 music just doesn't sound desprate enough, because frankly, the situation isn't because the Earth and the entire GTA isn't in jepordy, only one system is, so the music isok for that, but its not like wide spread desparity like FS1...

The combination of 'Numbers' and the first mission with the Shivans in FS2 was my most memorable experience of the game. It really suited it when the Carthage/Dashor jumped in and were attacked by the Goliath and Seraphim bombers.

Do you have vpview? If not, download it and learn how to use it. With this util, you can enter FreeSpace vp files, where musics, missions, textures, sounds etc. are contained.

FS2 has a few good ones, but FS1 is just better.  Has anybody ever felt like FS1 is faster than FS2?  I don't mean the ships or the framerate but that the actual events happen faster during the game giving it a more desparate feel.

The Framerate is truly faster no doubt ;)
It is really faster, in FS1 there is no 'Blind flying' within a nebula for hours, and enemy waves arrive quickerly.(<- Does this English word exists?)

Fs1 for atmosphere but FS2 has 2 I love.

The briefing music played before the mission defending the node from the NTF with the beam cannons.

And finally how can anyone NOT love the ending music to FS2? The sheer creepy choir section along with the methodical (seemingly unstoppable) beat.

I have never felt to rewarded for completeing a game as FS2`s ending. Not even FS1 with the lucifer nuking itself (although that was good)

I can't get enough of FS2's credits track, tbh.

Which ending music?

When Petrarch is talking about the loss of Alpha 1/Success, or when the Sathanases(<- Plural of Sathanas?) blow up Capella.

I can guess it otherwise.
It is really good, but nothing can overrun 8: Strike and Brief 4 of FS1!

m8_BTTL2.wav is the best, thats the music when the Lucifer blows away the Galatea...

Btw, in Freespace 2, did you ever feel the loss for the Psamtik??? No, in Freespace 1 did you feel the loss for the Galatea, yes...

Yeah, I felt it. At last I was free from the Vasudan Main Hall, and at last I could fly to the 70th Blue Lions. I also felt something the very first time I was playing that mission. The Sathanas entered the area, and fired at the Psamptik. Accidentally, I was flying right into the middle of the Superultramegaheavy beam.:(

There is one thing I hate: To restart the mission when you have already finished with it. It is fortunate that mission is not as long as the 'Doomsday' mission, when the Galatea is blown up.

You mean the Bastion. The Lucifer destroyed the Galatea in FS1.

you sir are very confused. In FS1, the Lucifer blew up the Galatea, and only the Bastion survived. In FS2, the rotting carcase of the Bastion was filled full of meson-y goodness and sent into the capella node in that "doomsday" mission.
Title: Which has better music?
Post by: TopAce on June 26, 2003, 10:20:47 am
Doomsday mission is when the Galatea is destroyed.
Apocalypse is the VERY last mission in FS2, when Capella goes nova. Then, the Bastion is no longer on the list of intact Terran destroyers.
Before that mission, when the Bastion seals the node, that mission is called 'Clash of the Titans II'. Clash of the Titans I was in FS1, when the Bastion had to be escorted to chase the Lucifer on.

I am not confused, just we don't understand each other.

That's Clash of the Titans II, as I told in the previous post. Get back to music! Because it is the topic of this thread.

I suggest :)
