Title: FREDing problem?
Post by: TopAce on June 13, 2003, 03:40:42 pm
I never imagined I would ask your help about FREDing, but FS1 causes some problems> It suddenly quits from the mission into the windows.

I suppose it is the problem of FREDing, because it occurs only in the case of my missions. Except the 'The Big Bang' mission, which also quits sometimes, and you surely know it is the mission when a Faustus has the Tsunami plan onboard and must be defended. It quits sometimes, but not as often as my missions. I suppose it is because the large number of ships in the area, but I am not certain since FS quited while I was fighting the last remained fighter alone, and we two were in the area alone.

Otherwise If I want to restart the game after this kind of quiting, I would have to restart my machine. . . . . Illegal operation window appears.

happens in FS1 and 2... nothing to do with FRED, unless its usermade, then maybe. To fix it, check your tables, copy your pilot and re-install... put the pilot back in and it should work... seems to happen in the big bang, exodus, and in FS2, the one where the Iceni enters the knossos

It has never happened in FS2 at me.
I don't use my own TBL in FS1.
I tried to reinstall, but the problem appears to be pernament.
The mission when the Iceni enters the Knossos is called 'Endgame' I know because when I first played FS2 campaign, I thought it is the last mission(forgotten about Shivans ....)

I ask this because I want to be certain if this is only at me, or at any FreeSoace owners. I am currently designing my own campaign for FS1, and I have this problem at one of the missions.

Are you fully patched and registry-optimised? That might help. Otherwise, what system are you running? If it's XP, try running FS in Win98/Me mode.

for a reinstall to work correctly, you have to uninstall, then delete the games/freespace folder and everything in it after you copy your pilot. restart the computer and install again...

I am not patched up in FS1 at all, its install program doesn't want to do the update.
I have win98
I don't think reinstalling is a good solution.
