Title: Can Freespace handle two different jump-anis simultaneously?
Post by: Plakkivastaava on December 27, 2001, 02:05:00 pm
Babylon 5 and Freespace ships make different looking jumppoints when they make jumps between Hyper/Subspace and normal space.

Can the freespace engine use them simultaneusly?

I have this idea of a crossover campaign...

No, It can't. Only way would be to use the special Knossos gate jump ani (i.e., build an invisible jumpgate)

LOL, plakkivastaava? Nick of the decade...

But yes, it's possible. In the way starwing described. So you have to use the "special warp"-ani, which is used in fred2. BTW you don't need an invisible knossos, any ship will work as a "knossos".

It just has to have the Knossos tag in the ships.tbl file...

yeah, I even gave that to the player ship once  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif) Fred will complain; but the mission will work. It didn't do what I expected tho ( having the alternate jump ani), it just made the jump camera stay still, or something like that (it looked like the jump was very violent in fact)

Sure, I know this group. Hell, I have been playing FS2 since it came out. I´m not a newbie. I just registered here, but I have been FS fan for years and played many campaigns.

So its rather difficult to do this. An invisible Knossos for every FS ship that jumps in? ahh crap. What a painstaking work that would be.

GRRR. As I mentioned, you can use ANY SINGLE SHIP that's in the mission as the "target". It doesn't need to have the "knossos" flag, you can use the same target for multiple ship jumps and so on.
