Terran Syndicate Alliance Cruiser, for my Nodewar campaign im working on.

Thoughts? There are some things that i can see that might need changing, though im unsure.
-
Hmmm.
Ramming frigate, is it?
-
Where's the GTD Cube when you need it?
Anyway, detail. It has none, it needs some. Alternately, you can leave out the detail, and make it look like that was intentional, which it doesn't right now.
-
I like the lack of detail, it's like the Oliver Hazard Perry class. Simple design to allow mass production in even the smallest of shipyards.
-
Detail as in?
-
I assume he means turrets and what not, but clearly you haven't added them yet.
-
As in greebling, as in more interesting textures, as in something that's not a barely modified cube. You could keep it as a barely modified cube, but you'd better keep all the textures more or less matching, then.
-
The flat top and bottom is intentional(they'll be covered in turrets soon enough, just turreting is tricky and i want to leave that until last), as is the flat front. As it gives it a more robust look, than fancy curves.
-
That's fine, but there's nothing on the surfaces, either. Complex meshes in general work better, but in this case you'd better at least have stuff to look at on the surfaces.
-
trash the FS2 maps, and use something else.
btw, I'm sick of seeing FS2 maps everywhere.
edit: where are the engines?
-
Texture is temperory while i wait for wEvil to find his TSI texture and while i find some other textures from somewhere, i thought it would be better than white. The engines are at the back in a rectangular alcolve i made for them.
-
I'd put some spinal mounted beam cannons on the front of the ship, just to give it some punch.

Personally, i don't think it resembles a doorstop or cube now.
-
okay you got me there..
just teasing BTW..
-
That does look much better.
It somehow looks Taiidan to me...
-

doesnt look very tesser to me ....
*cant wait to see the tyranous(sp?)* mmmmmmmmmmm glowmaps :D
-
It probably won't be a TSI ship. The main problem with it as far as i can see, is textures. Im not good at making textures and i need some new ones for the TSI.

that, my friend, isn't a skill you're born with. you have to work to acquire it, it's that simple.
make a map. it might suck, but still, make it. give it a day or two, then go back to it, you'll look at it with "fresh" eyes. work more on it, change what's wrong, etc. and again, and again, until you're pleased with it.
you'll NEVER get exactly what you want if you don't do it by yourself, that's an obvious fact.
-
I was intending to do that.
-
Made it wider.

Thats starting to take a look of a Kushan Firelance frigate ;)
-
Definately an improvement

Why is it that every ship reminds someone of a Homeworld ship? Not to mention that this weird phenomonen is only going to get worse when Homeworld 2 comes out!
-
It's because HomeWorld is such a great game, that everyone has been brainwashes by it, or something.
-
Homeworld was acceptable, but it wasn't THAT hot.

[Homer Simpson]I know you're upset, but I'll pretend you didn't say that.[/Homer Simpson]

I didn't like homeworld, sue me.
-
I'll do more than that, I'll send the Bentusi after you.
-
I,ve only ever 1/2 played the demo.

True dat. Time & effort, you can never get around them if you want something good.
-
exactly... look at my art for instance, i worked at that(and photoshop)
it can only get better from there...;)
-
My only problem is that the ship is, well, quite flat. It needs more extrusions and stuff. Give it more of a shape.
Unless, it's supposed to be that way. :nervous:
Oh, and I like that new texture better, than the old one. ;)
-
'S probably because original Homeworld was on such an ancient engine every ship had maybe eleven polys, making anything boxy look Homeworldish.
-
Tutorial to making a basic Homeworld ship:
Make a rectangle.
Bevel the ends.
Add some smaller rectangles in interesting locations.
Add an antenna or two.
Finished.
-
It's all true.
-
Its looking sweet mate, any chance of some different angles? and whats fire power is this puppy going to be packing?
.....hmmm sure i said that somewhere else :D
