I have been working hard on this document for a long time(30 minutes? :) )
It is based on my frequently encountered problems, perhaps some of you can use it:
read this! (http://www.nexus.hu/harace//FSHelp.doc)

Well, I've printed out the wingman and command faces - I kept meaning to put something like that together - you've saved me a job :).
-
I knew that one is a good thing. What about the other infos? Some of them are basics, I know(beams, docking)
-
I had a quick look through. Nothing I didn't know before but I'm sure they'll be a lot of newbies glad for the information.
I'll add a link to it in my FAQ next time I update.

That's quite an honor for me. My first attempt at doing a Helpdoc. Thanks!

So, some ideas for vol.0.0000002
Where are the voices, and how do you make other wings TALK? (non automated off course)
and now the tough one...
A sample mission, from inception to playing it, (including playtesting it with the ...indestructible bit). I know it sounds and is hard, but THAT IS WHAT WE NEED.
You see, the problem most people have with fred, is that they see all these options, all these clickable things and go..
"NO WAY I can make a mission using this.", whereas it is not. Even though some times, for me at least, I keep forgetting something REALLY SIMPLE and have to go back to the basics every time.

I based this help to do not give a full tutorial, these are just things FRED Help(from volition, pressing F1 in FRED) doesn't write down, like using beams, docking, etc. That doc contains a full tutorial from making a mission from the very beginning till the full completion of a mission. I don't find it too ideal to suffer with that. The fact is all around here(At HLP, of course) know how to FRED.
Is the 'planet behind the nebula' part understandable?
-
The reason I am asking for a play by play account is that I feel that this is the reason why most people HATE FRED. V has the easy and the difficult (longer) example. Most people though, need more examples. That is what I was aiming at.
I will try to make one, myself. Just to help someone else get up in on it. :)
As for the planet in the nebula, to tell you the truth, I have NEVER made a nebula mission. For me at least a lot of things don't work right.
Will try to make one today and see what happens.
Keep this channel open.

I'm working on a step by step guide to FRED at the moment. It's only going to deal with basic functios for the first chapter, but I plan to do a second chapter also that will deal with a lot of the more advanced stuff later on.
-
If somebody cannot handle FRED, I can say sorry to his weak mind. You haven't seen AvP 2 level editor! That's one of a really difficult editors I have ever seen. The another is JED(Jedi Knight 1!) That's not so great editor. My first and the only problem in FRED was to place ships. I could do background, messages, events, etc. But it took much time for me to experience the magical CTRL-click function. :D

Let me guess .... the next post would be of Karajorma ...

I've just been reading through the guide and on the whole it's pretty good but I've noticed an errors that needs correction for V0.00000002 :)
Two hostile sides attack each other
This is the event when two sides which are hostile for the player are attacking each other and the player’s side.
Choose all ships from one of the hostile sides, and set their IFF to Neutral.
Now, the three sides(Friendly, Hostile, Neutral) will be warring each other.
You've forgotten to mention that you have to tick the all teams at war option. If you don't the hostiles will attack the neutrals but the neutrals won't attack them back (Neutral is the setting the HOL used in FS1).
-
I didn't know that. A strange is I used this in my campaign, too, and all were firing upon each other. :D
A strange. What other errors have you found, Master ?:D
-
Nothing else. It was pretty accurate :)
As for the error I'm only repeating what is said in the FRED2 docs. I don't think I've actually tried it out recently but I seem to vaguely remember the docs being right.
