Title: Comet model still needed.
Post by: WS-Thunder on December 22, 2001, 09:24:00 pm
I am still in need of a comet model. I just need someone to take an asteriod model, increase it to double it's regualar size and add a tail using the engine glow effect. It needs to be shootable though as well. I need it within the next few days if possible. Please assist if any of you guys can. Thanx in advance!  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Ummmm... not what I was looking for. What I need is a comet that works the same as a ship. It can only move forward though. Comets have an exteremely long white tail that usually glows. A cruiser looks nothing like that bud.

wow i spelled comet wrong too, anyways, i cant look up the models, but a few of them are actually round enough (it was a joke thou bud), basically just give an astroid an engine glow, and stretch the engine to compensate, i dont have my tables here either, so i dont know if thats possible either, probably not, im just rambling now

Why not make the comet a dumbfire missile with a nice invisdible launcher ship.

I wonder what would happen if you added missile trail data to a ships tbl entry.

stupid trekkie nerd, but anyways, dont make it a missle, if you do then you cant control it, even then if you get in its way it will detonate, not say collision

and no, you cant drop weapons properties into ships.tbl

What have you got against Trekkies? He was demonstrating a comet missile, a perfectly valid point.

Make a huge weapon, like the TTH, but with a big trail and a slow speed. That'd be perfect, I think. Then just get a ship to fire it before the mission starts and you're set.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

only pb: your comet will vanish if it collides with anything  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/frown.gif)

1) The picture is of a phaser error
2) They're Tribbles ( (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif))

The main thing, actually, is that I need a modeler to make the thing being that all I have is MS paint to make models with LOL :P

I was also hoping that somone might have allready made one of these that works. I was also thinking of just simply making a comet that simply moves in a straight line, it doesn't have to move in any other direction. Just forward.

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't comets just big chunks of ice that melt when they spin around a star? So you'll also need it retexturing to look more ice-ish.

Oooh, why not make it so that the comet model has hundreds of secondaries firing tiny rockets to make the trail. Or a whole **** -load of flak cannons firing on its rear, several types with different range and intensity to give the trail a thining effect. That way if you flew into the trail you'd suffer minor damage as if tiny chunks of melting ice were hitting you. And all you'd need is the DM tools, some new textures and WordPad t alter the TBL entries.

The Flak and seconderies wouldn't fire without a hostile ship being in their range.

So. You just stick a docking point on the rear and put an invincible hostile spec docked with it.....an un-targetable invincible spec.

Isn't there a Fire-Secondaries thingy in FRED? The secondaries could fire in bursts of like 100000000000000000 so you'd only need to set them off once per mission.

Don't beams throw off some particles? An invisible beam that spews **** -loads of particle?

hmm, interesting  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif) beams don't generates particles by themselves(the glow does, maybe), but did somebody ever try to add the tag to a beam to see what happens?
