Why the hell do a lot of games support 1280x1024, but NOT 1280x960?!
I just got Enter the Matrix and I got pissed that they did the same thing as Unreal Tournament and the like. Why do they support a resolution thats not 4:3 like the rest of the resolutions, and not support a 4:3 like 1280x960? It makes no sense, and I can't stand distortion in the least. What's everyone else's thoughts? Why do they do this?

You always were a picky bastard :p
I dont notice stuff like that..
1280x720 I would notice... unless they made it widescreen like...
-
Yeah yeah, but its not just games, its wallpapers, its everything!!! The VIRUS is spreading... nooo... even I am being distorted!!! :nervous:

my vid card, although it can support the res, i don't like it at all

Whine, whine. When you have to replace a friggin expensive 21" monitor with a little old one that barely even does 1280 'cos streaky crap's making it impossible to see what you're doing, and you still get streaky crap after all that loading and throwing stuff away, come talk to me.
I've got a special deal on a video card.:D
Anyway, eh. Must be the card. See above- mine does both. Like streaking?
-
precisely, quit yer whinging, and live with a res of 1280 x 1024 or somesuch
-
the reason comes from windows. the tech reason of that? go wonder.
-
Thats so you can do multipe monitor display, I think
-
[edit] never mind, should have read the original post more carefully :p
It's only 84 pixels though, so it probably shouldn't make too much a difference. :p :D
I use either 800x600 or 1024x768 in games (depending on how graphically-intensive the game is) along with 1152x864 in windows.

Ok, how about you live with a monitor that streaks and the HIGHEST resolution it can handle is 1280x1024, not to mention its small as hell. I really need an upgrade on this PoS. I never said I couldn't use 1280x960, it's just not supported in any games, and most wallpapers are in 1280x1024, not in 1280x960(a normal 4:3 resolution). And its not my card, its a GeForce4 ti4200.
I'm not whining, if a game doesn't support 1280x960, then I just play in 1024x768, but I'm wondering why the hell they don't.

... Which is exactly what I said. And then some.:p
HA! Short of a DOS user, I can one-up ANYONE in the bad-computer department! I am INVINCIBLE!!
Er...
Anyway, they just don't. I'd imagine some older games would have to have different interfaces for different res levels (like Freespace, last I checked), or maybe they just didn't bother code for it. Probably figured, you'd either fall into the next highest or next lowest category, and it's not that big a difference, so who's gonna care?
-
Yeah, but it doesn't make sense. Especially with interfaces. You could just create an interface that scales on a 4:3 basis, that would work with 640x480. From there, all the other resolutions use the same scale. But once you get 1280x1024, that scale doesn't work anymore, it'll look distorted.
I should try playing games at 1280x1024, increase the FOV, see if it helps, meh.
