Do not try to name all the characters from Deus Ex. Just don't bother. It's impossible, as there are so many. I've just tried it over MSN, and I now need to go an lie down somewhere.
-
Will do...
-
[color=66ff00]And this kind of thing is exactly why you have the title you do...

-
Well there you are then.
I am simply trying to encourage discussion about Deus Ex.
Change the thread title, if it makes you feel any better.
-
I wrote them all down once as I met them in the game. :nervous: I had nothing better to do.
-
I just played it recently since I missed it the first time, I dont remember there being THAT many. I once tried to name all the characters in the Marvel universe, I stopped when I got to 300...or was it 500.
-
Don't make me start naming em!
-
[color=66ff00]Saying that there are an awful lot of characters in Deus Ex is not how I'd go about trying to invoke discussion about the game.
On the other hand we don't get a lot of marvel/DC discussion in here so keep going. ;)
Go Green Lantern! :D

HAH!

pfft:ick :ick
Marvel has way more cool characters. The whole universe is more believeable due to the realistic mutant/human hate relationship and other stuff
Plus Marvel has way more omnipotent characters. Name me one superhero that can take on Onslaught. or Galactus. or Thanatos. or X-Man. Or Apocolypse
...yeah, I'm a Marvel comic nerd:D :D

Duh.
All at once, too.
Oh, wait, is that limited to superheroes? Pfft. Pansies, all of them.
And if you think the endless harping about how irrationally intolerant and evil people are and all that **** is realistic... well, that's why you're not a politico, either. It's terribly simplistic and clear-cut. That's all I'll say there, 'cos this thread don't need no killin' yet.

There aren't that many DX characters, definitely far more than most games, but still probably less than 150. I think I could name them all, seeing as I have played the game 18 times through. :D
-
Do the "characters" in DX include all those guys with names like "MJ12 Soldier 1" and "Dock Worker 5" who get maybe one line if you're sneaking around and are really careful?
Then, yeah, I could see 150.:p
-
hey that's only an upper bound. :p
It doesn't show the names for all of the guys though, even people you can talk to (lots of unnamed bums, soldiers, mechanics, etc.). I think it depends on what exactly a "character" is defined as.
-
"Guy who they bothered assign a name to" is probably a safe bet.
-
Nah Stryke, I'm not gonna fight with you. It takes 2 to argue and I for one will not participate
Back on (or off) topic, I dont know what the Green Lantern's powers are, but unless they're "do anything" I ont see him kicking any ass. Galactus can eat worlds. Apocolypse is a 5000 year old genetic overlord. Onslaught is basically unstopable both physically and mentally. He can kill you with a thought. Same goes for XMan. Oh and Franklin Richards, who is like a 10 year old kid, and he created an entire dimension just with the power of his mind.
As for Deus Ex, I dont remember there being more than 20 main characters, not counting the generic soldiers. I hear that in Deus Ex 2, you play as a clone of JC (just wondering, is JC a reference to THE JC, as in Christ?), wonder where the original went. Hope they use the same explaination to bring Paul back to life, he was cool..

[Participation quelled]

Dude, I thought you weren't going to participate?
and yes, that's a clone of the original JC Denton that you play, tho it can be a male clone or a female clone.
this reminds me: my buddy Crash got the job. He's working on T3, not Dx2 though.
-
For comics, you won't find much better than Preacher. It's like the best action film never made.

can't you see the clone on the last level of the first one, or is that something different. I remember seeing some thingy in one of those weird cloning tanks
-
That's right. There's four tanks with clones in them. One of them is named A Denton or Alex Denton or something. That never used to click in my head till I knew about the sequel.

Bingo.
Anyway, that's Sinestro- yet better.
And what an... interesting way you have of "not participating". This kinda goes in line with comparing An0n to Hitler, doesn't it?
And... wow. This thread ran out of topic real fast.

Hmm..Deus Ex 2 seems to be set up for a very interesting story.
What I dont get is this: There were 2 AI programs, Daedelus (I seem to remember a Daedlus from the VBB, anyone else remeber him?) and Icarus , then they merged into Helios. One of them was working for Everett and the other for Page. But, in Everett's base, behind a locked door, there was a third AI program in the works, called Morpheus. Why didn't he appear anywhere in the story? Like Everett had him, why didnt he use him?
-
Morpheus was just a prototype, IIRC, and so would not be able to handle all the data that Daedalus/Icarus/Helios would.

Just an idle fact (never completed DX, think the furthest I got was hong kong)....
Daedelus and Icarus are both figures from Greek mythology, who were imprisoned on the island of Crete (I think). Icarus was the son of Daedelus. Both glued feathers to their arms (with wax) to try and fly out to escape. This they did, but Icarus flew too close to the sun, melting the wax and losing his feathers - and therefore dying (or burning up...not 100% sure). Helios is also, I think, the name of the sun god.
-
Yes. That really doesn't have a whole lot to do with the names in the game, though- believe me, I usually keep an eye out for clever analogies, this wasn't one.
-
All the characters in Dues Ex? Pfft... try all the characters in Freelancer. ;)
-
Ahh, but how do you know that the characters in FL are different people?
They all say the same things, after all.;)

"Well I'm with...: Synth Foods... We don't run this place, but we do have a sizeable stake in it's opporation."
"Well I work for the....Liberty Navy. We don't run this place, but we have an understanding with the people who do."
*shudder*

X; Beyond the Frontier was worse.
"(male voice) I think it is through the (female voice) West Gate"
Oh dear.
