Where is a system map? I saw a map the other day but forgot where it was. Could somebody enlighten me please? thanks.
-
Check the FRED section of my FAQ and download the FS2 reference guide.
-
Actually, I used the reference guide and created a node map... :)
What can I say, it got boring during those 2 years in Florida without an internet connection.
-
nice, but compared to the standard nodemap, things kinda shifted places.
-
Well, you wouldn't believe how many versions I did on paper before they all fit into place...
I actually had every one memorized with their adjoining systems
placement doesn't matter too much anyway, since space isn't linear... like philotes...
-
(http://www.3dap.com/hlp/hosted/reciprocity/images/nodemap2.gif)
AFAIK this is the official map.
(Ignore the colour coding, it's for Reci)
-
But that doesn't show nearly enough systems...
-
Be careful with Raa Tor'h's map cause pretty though it may be there are several systems on it that aren't canon (everything after Altair and the Talnia are all unofficial).
That said it's a nice node map :)
-
I took them all from the reference bible though...
They included non-canon data in it? Figures, lol
-
This is a little off topic but is about a starmap.
You have probably seen the Babylon5 starmap, it is a beautiful map..
Well that`s what I thought of when I seen you map Raa Torh, looking good dude.;)
-
Thanks, the contrast isn't as good in this version as in the 1280 x 1024 one I had as a desktop for a while, but it does show alot...
BTW: That's Tania Australis, and then Tegmen after Tau Sigma...
-
The one you posted still looks sweet, even if it isn`t 1280 X 1024:yes:

Someone should make a nodemap based solely on FS1's command breif ani. maps. This map, while completely different than the FS2 one (different systems are joined together), it makes a whole lot more sense for the plot of freespace1 than the new nodemap.
While many disregard the original nodemap, I believe we should follow this one because it was the original version, and that being said, it should take precedence over sequel's material. Plus, I don't believe that the FS1 nodemap's differences make too much of an impact on FS2's storyline, unlike how the FS2 one simply kills a whole lot of events in FS1.
An example of something simply ridiculous with the FS2 nodemap is the joining of Ross 128 and Delta Serpentis. Ross 128 was supposed to be a distant outpost on the frontier of the T-V war, but with the FS2 nodemap the system would be so far behind Terran lines that it would never be the sight of conflict. I also think that Delta Serpentis should be connected to Luyten, as I belive Luyten, Wolf 359, and Alphard are supposed to be systems that form so-called the 'heart' of Terran space in FS1. Luyten cannot be beyond Laramis, because Laramis was discovered during FS1, and there are supposed to be 9 terran systems (the Terran core systems) left in their control after Antares, Beta Cygni, Betelgeuse, Ross 128, Ribos, Vega, and all the Terran outer outposts (Capella, Epsilon Pegasi, Proycon, Adhara, Mirfax, Gamma Drac, and Polaris) are under Shivan control.
The only Terran systems left (excluding Laramis, which, because it was just discovered, cannot be a core system) are the following"
1. Sol
2. Delta Serpentis
3. Beta Aquilaie
4. Sirius
5. Luyten
6. Alphard
7. Wolf 359
8. Dubhe
9. Barnard's Star
So therefore, the Delta Serpentis -> Ross 128 -> Laramis -> Luyten -> Wolf 359/Barnard's Star, etc... route is wrong. It should probably be something like this: Delta Serpentis -> Luyten -> Wolf 359/Barnard's Star, etc...
Ross 128, because it was the first system to fall (followed by Ikeya and Betelgeuse, and Ikeya was stated to be a seperate entry point into T-V space than Ross 128) should be connected to Betelgeuse. As for Laramis, it could be accessed via a node in the Luyten system, because it was obviously not connected to Ross 128, because then Terran researchers could not possibly operate in a system connected only to a Shivan infested area with no Terran outposts in the system.
I would make such a nodemap myself, but i have no skills in rendering and such. :o

Raa Torh.. you're missing a jump node between Capella and Epsilon Pegasi. If you are basing this map AFTER the destruction of Capella, then also change the link between Vega and Capella... i know, i'm very picky. ;)
-
The "official" map (Aldo, careful - Barnard's Star goes to Dubhe, not Alphard) ...
Of course, the Talania system (not "Talnia") isn't there, even though it's referred to in FS1. And the Sirius-Delta Serpentis node isn't there either, despite its importance in the last few missions of FS1.
So jump nodes are a bit capricious - if you can come up with a reasonable explanation for a node or lack of node, more power to you. (The TVWP is doing this to a degree.) :)
-
.... Neither is the Alpha Centauri to Sol node! Or the Beta Aquilae to Sol node!
-
IIRC, it's Deneb, not Alpha Centauri.

It wasn't posted in the reference Bible, so I didn't put it... Maybe I'll fix it... hmm...
-
One error i noticed in FS1 is that there are several jumpnodes leading from Sol.. 3 to be exact. Infact, the Galatea goes from Beta Aquilae to Sol to Deneb.. its in one of the command briefing's video windows. Whats up with that V?
-
Volition forgot to recheck FS1 when they made the "official" nodemap for FS2 is what happened. They messed up the new map and forgot some nodes, while they misplaced some other systems. (refer to my previous post)
-
That map is actually the official map for FS1. (If it were for FS2, it would have a different style of graphics.) It seems the jump node map shifted around quite a bit during the development of the game.
-
Goto the Mission Playing Judas... you'll see the GTD Galatea going from BA to Sol, then up to Deneb. It was because of going that way that the Galatea was destroyed by the Lucifer... histroy just screwed itself up :wtf:
-
In the fs1 end cutscene, it says that all nodes to Sol were destroyed. Maybe a "subspace shockwave" destroyed the node to Beta Aquilae.
But what about the jump node from Sirius to DA that the Bastion took to intercept the Lucifer.
Hmm...maybe we should just screw the V map and make our own "canon" one.:)
Or better, let FSURP do it.;)
EDIT: Goober, I should know this, but what systems connect to Talania? I thought there was only one, because it distabilized before fs1 (FSURP). I've forgotten everything I knew about that part of the TVWar.
-
Also, Raa Tor'h, Beta Aquilae goes to Antares, not Beta Cygni.
-
I downloaded this map somewhere from HLP, I think this is of IceFire, or somebody of the 'big brains'
Otherwise, I use the original node map(Goober500's image) to make the progress of my campaign, but is that a matter if I ignore unofficial systems? I want Altair IV to have a jump node not only to Aldebaran, to somewhere else. Is that a matter? That system is not Tau Sigma, and it still has no other nodes discovered that might lead the man to 'outerer' systems.
-
I'm making my own, and I'm pretty much adding as many systems as will fit.
The reason I'm making my own map is because I have a bulletin board in my room that would be perfect for hanging a node map, but it is taller than it is wide, so I'm having to put the systems in new places, but I don't think it matters as long as all the jump nodes are correct.
BTW - That map is by Icefire (bottom, left-hand corner:D )

You can pretty much make systems as you see fit. I don't think anyone will complain if you invent a couple of new systems.
And if anyone complains that you've got a different system connected Altair from Icefire I'll help pull the flush while you stick their head down the toilet. ;7 The unofficial systems are exactly that. Unofficial. If you want to have the same universe as Icefire I'm sure he won't mind. If you don't, there is no reason you should have to.
-
I like Icefire's map and usually use it also, because it has the most new systems, and the more the better in my opinion.:)
I'm of course adding two or three new systems of my own.:p I'll share after I'm done.
-
I am a kind of person who always belives to the official stuff. So if I would want to make another campaign(ohh ... how far it is!), I would use the original Volition map, that's certain.
-
I like official stuff too, but I'd like more star systems than are on that map. So...if I want to make a campaign with official stuff only, then I use only canon systems.;)
The map I use, it's got all the canon systems, plus a butt-load of new ones. Many are taken from Icefire's map (I want somebody else to have some of the stuff I do).
The resizing thing in PSP8 didn't do too well.
It's upright like that because it was meant to fit my bulletin board in my room (I have a 20*30 inch version)
-
Click on that map to get a better looking version.
-
That's not a bad map, the fact is there ... which system has node leading to another system, their location is particularly mind.
-
My personal favorite is this one by IceFire
(http://www.3dactionplanet.com/hlp/hosted/fsport/images/goodies/nodes.jpg)
For my campaign "GTI: Untold Sorties" I need to add in a few extra nodes connecting Altair and Aldebarran to Alphard and Dubbe at the left end of the map.
Later!

IceFire's version is good if you want to follow an existing storyline, because many of new systems are on like, like Tau Sigma of Derelict. But if you want to follow FS2, or FS1's original story, the [V] map is more useful, other systems don't disturb you. I was using the original FS map while planning the chain of events for Renegade Ressurgence.
