Title: Blender and techroom ani's
Post by: HotSnoJ on June 30, 2003, 06:36:52 pm
And they thought it couldn't be done.

A test with the Apollo (http://swooh.com/peon/hotsnoj/ss_apollo.rar)

I'll see if I can smooth out the processes and make a semi-decent tutorial. But I make no garantee's.

Oh and BTW what are you're thoughts?

WOW.:eek2:

If the actual game looked like that, Unreal 2 would have some real competition in the graphics department.

Real good work there Hotsnoj. I'd suggest slowing down the scan and the camera movement a little cause they move a lot faster than in the standard FS2 anis but apart from that it's pretty close to perfect.

It's only four lights. One 'glued' to the camera, two just above the ship model, and one green colored light just below and to the front of the ship to get that nice grid glow off of the ship.

Really? I thought I had it almost frame for frame.

Some people here are remembered for their models, some for their code, and other's for their breakthroughs in :V: like ani's.

Paint :ick. All will be revialed in a tutorial (if there is one :nervous: ).

I used Blender Publisher 2.25, PSP 6, Anim (the animation part of PSP), and AniBuilder (DUH).

Actually looks like you might be right. I've played it again and it seemed less rushed this time. :)

Two days. Not two whole days mind you.

What took me the longest was the decressing of colors on PSP (doing 107 images can eat your patience) and trying to figure out how to do the trasition between the wire frame and the textured model.

hahaha! Ph34r corel photopaint's batch conversion! :p

baring that, another way that *might* work would be to set your desktop to 256 colors, then you don't have to convert anything...

Post by: Nico on July 01, 2003, 12:20:36 pm
heh? no that wouldn't work at all :p

You could use Irfanview's batch converter.

rats...I guess I assumed that it would use desktop color depth for output color depth...

it look very pro. Btw i can't believe psp doesn't have a batch conversion with the possibility of reducing color depth...107 images manually...:shaking: :shaking:

that's the problem, it has batch conversion. i was wondering about that one.

I got a new ani for your eyes to see.

Even more like the Volition ss ani's. (http://swooh.com/peon/hotsnoj/ss-advanced.rar)

Also the tutorial on off the ground....about 3 inches, but off the ground non the less. :D

if you mean what I think you mean, for getting those colours to conform to a batch conversion, try using the system pallete when converting the files to 256 colour? That way it should stop you having to keep optimising? I always got all the files into one directory and batch converted them to PCX's setting the system pallette along the way :)
Excellent work, by the way, I've been trying to get a techroom ani working for a while myself, using a 3d Rendering package, but I never got it as close as that, I must admit.

Flipside :)

Actually I found a better way to do it. I take the pallatte from one of the from where it is transitioning from wire to textured and then set that to the first frame. Then in AniBuilder I just tell it to use the first frame's pallatte. This way I don't have to do the pallatte for every frame.

Tutorial, yes. When it will be done, unknown. The tutorial will have little tips and pointers but you will need to know your way around Blender's interface.

I think I have found a great new way to make the ani's! You'll just need to hit the animation buttom once!

You should make a addon pack of this stuff for the FS port that would rock! :thepimp:

Please! ;7 You'll need the Apollo, Valkyrie, Athena, Dragon, Anubius, and Amun.

In fact, if you can do this for weapons, too, I might be inspired to model all the FS1 weapons in hi-poly for you.

GO ahead a make them, but atm I tied down with Attempted Suicids, TVWar, and making the tutorial.

Once he finishes the tutorial, I'm planning on practicing on the Valkyrie. If it's any good, you can have it.:)

But don't get your hopes up...it probably won't be that good...

Well don't hold your breath. Remember my hdd got zapped in a storm a few days ago. So I'll have to start the tutorial and the Blender file all over again. But it shouldn't take that long on the Blender file since I got most of it in my head :D

Finaly I said something and they got it in one try YAY!

NvM

Hay GE will you pout it all up for download for those like me without FS1 as a extra thing? or just make a new version of FS port? I think it would be sooo cool to have it as a optional download.

feh, nice job man :D

get JASC Image Robot for mass conversion like that, I did a BUNCH of sprite work in doom and it's source ports.

or if you have the time, just get PSP8, the new scripting function is INCREDIBLE, and you can do batch script processing too, I made some nice sprites for FS2 like that.

it's handy as hell too :D

Good news! I just bought a new 120GB HDD. It should be here Monday or Tuesday next week. Then I'll watch some Rockman.exe and restart the ani project! :D
Title: New on the Blender ani stuff

:bump:

Started work on the tutorial again so it should be written in a few days. Pictures on the other hand may have to wait until late August early September, I'm going on vacation and my aunts computer 5uc|<5 :ick.

In related news I have found a brand new way of making the ani which requires very little post-production and basicly no image manipulation. Also this technic can be used to make beams, though I havn't yet had a chance to test it.

[EDIT]Almost forgot the technic can be used to make cool Subspace entrances and exits too.
