You get some IRC Server software, install it, configure it, then point some domain at your computer and tell people the domain.

Well, as far as setting one up, you'll need an IRC server program.  Darkage runs Wircsrv, but I can't seem to find a download for it anywhere.  Operating the server, on the other hand...

Wircsrv can only have 10 users on it on the non-registerd version. But i have found somehtign better. Now i can decide how stuff works with more options then wircsrv has.

Install a real OS.

They have them built in.

FreeBSD, RedHat, UNIX. They're all good.

Anyone know of a good IRC server?  The one we've been using has been crapping out.

I use IRCplus 2000, but it's windows based. If you want it i can send it to you in about 9/12 hours:D

Sorcery is one of the best networks around.

It's big, but small enough that there's no lag. They've got lots of rules, but these keep dick-heads, crackers and retards out. And if you're nice, they'll ignore you breaking the rules. They've got lots of stuff like NickServ and ChanServ running, but not so much that you've got people being pissing about with loads of pointless crap and annoying the hell out of you.

In short, Sorcery is ordered, well-run and friendly, as well as being stable and functional.
