Title: Civvy Ship

Well...I've recently got through my truespace headaches, and decided to just model in d3d mode...but that's not the point...

The point is, I've modeled a nifty (ish) new corporate civillian ship, a corporation ship, probably like a larger yacht to draw parallels from real life, and it sorely needs detail...I've got the basic shape worked out, and it's around 200 polys...

hey, that's pretty cool.  Need more views though, I can't tell if the hull in the middle stays the height, or if it lowers. and get a bottom/back side view too :nod:

Try doing something with the nose, like the sharp end of a Fenris. And try putting some gubbinz on the engine end of it, it looks like there's a large ammount of plain, um, plane.

the design is nice, it would fit perfectly in my mod (if i knew how to TS lol....), but i got a plethora of textures that would make your ship look civvy enough. if interested PM/IM me.

As has been said, it needs some details. What about some little stubby fin-type thingies on the sides at the back, to break up that big flat vertical face. A sensor array on the front would be cool, a couple of irregular spiky things like on the bottom of the Orion, or like the front of the Marine cruiser (the Sulaco) from Aliens. That'd look cool as well.

Is it going to have a shuttlebay, and do you plan to release it or is it held back for a specific project? My campaign could use a ship like this, it's pretty much perfect for what I was planning....

hmm...stubby fin things? elaborate a bit...I don't quite understand what you mean there.

I'm adding some antenaii (or however you spell it) and a few little levels here & there...the middle section inside needs a bit more, but I'm not sure what. I'll try to end it like the front of the fenris, but then people will go "hey, that looks like the front end of a fenris", and I'm not sure I want that :p

Shuttlebay: mebby...now that I think about it, that'd make a nice thing to take up a bit of space on the side or the bottom...:drevil:

EDIT: well, since it is about 1 AM, I should probably pack it in...status updates:

top/side, with new antenae...still need something to go on the sides...

That would make a great cruiser for my mod. only prob is that there are going to be none of the FS "flat turrets" on my ships only rotateing ones. Anyone here know where I could find a how too on FS ship making for Mya 3D?

Anaz: Models comming along. :yes: I like the front dealies and all the other stuff.

As for the fighter bay, well it'd basically only hold like a wing of shuttles at the most, right? Well you could put little claws around the fighterbay, or make it look like a star destroyer sort of thing, maybe?

That thing looks startlingly similar to the Adropov (http://www.3dap.com/hlp/hosted/the158th/dev/narol/stukov-01.jpg) or the Kiev (http://www.3dap.com/hlp/hosted/the158th/dev/narol/kiev2.jpg) from the 158th.

If it weren't for the fact that the file is gone from my hard drive, I'd say that mesh was one of the WIP models for the Kiev.

I'd seen the Kiev, but not the Adropov before...the resemblance IS uncanny...

looking at the Adropov a bit...I think I may re-work the engine(s) a bit...

Ah! The bridge superstructure - take that, and copy it to the side of the hull, on the big flat face at the back. Mess with the shape a bit, making it thinner. Make the leading edge perpendicular to the hull, but have the trailing edge sweep forward at a fairly sharp angle.

Hmm, that's not very clear, is it?

Draw a square. Then draw a straight line from one corner to the middle of one of the opposite sides. Take away the resultant right-angled triangle, and you're left with the sort of shape I'm trying to describe. Stick that on the side, with the angled edge at the back. This leaves you with a Stubby Fin Thingy™.

Ah hell. You're a smart guy, you'll figure it out...:nervous:

EDIT: Oops. Spent too long trying to describe what I was thinking. I like those engines! Shame about the shuttlebay though - what about putting it a bit further forward, or opening out of the front of that dockpoint structure?

ahh! Another person telling me it reminded me of a ship I've never seen before!!!

Pyro, what I wasn't sure about was where you wanted me to put them...I've got the general concept of stubby fins ;)
As for the shuttlebay...this thing isn't that big...sheesh, that'd put it at about destroyer size...

You need to alter the main hull a little more so it doesn't look so plain and installation-like.

Or how willing people are to squint when they look at homeworld :) Quite often (as appears to be the case this time)the ship has only a passing resemblance to the one it's being compared to.

yeah, I've started texturing this beast (well, mostly textured it, then forgot about it for 3 weeks... :nervous: ). Anyhow, here's the results. Thanks to deep_eyes for the textures and reminding me that I did texture the ship :D

I was showing this (awesome) ship to someone... and they said that "it looks like a metal penis with 6 fingers about to grab around it, and it's cumming blue" ....... :wtf:  + :lol:  = :rolleyes: :lol:

edit: that ship should be a military ship... its cool enough to be one.  Those blue solar panel bits could provide AWACS support...

if it's civvy some more windows are needed, don't like the blue panels (make a custome texture with the borders), don't like the window texture of the bridge in the middle, the back is too monothone. nice design btw

Karma: Solar panel textures: I'd love to, but I can't make textures worth ****. I also couldn't think of any other place to put windows as (IMO) they look very bad on sharp angles, and most of the other space is taken up by sharp angles. I may replace the texture on the "bridge" with some windows. Also, there is a string of windows running down the side of the central area. And monothone? Is that a spelling error, or have I missed something?

even if you can't draw new maps, making patchworks can be done by evryone, so what's the problem?
find a map -fs2 or internet- you can use to make the borders and maybe some lines to make a grid, open paintbrush, photoshop or whatever and do it. The point is how you imagine it, and then invent a way to do it.
Windows can easily be placed on the nose and the rear angle, just modify your texture (again, a patchwork will work fine if you can't draw by yourself) and if you have problems with uvmapping use Lithunwrap
and with monothone I just mean that it simply is a very basic texture just repeated to cover oll the polys, some texture variations, mech elements, other stuff, will improove a lot the whole thing

It shouldn't have any serious firepower - at most, a couple of crappy little point-defence turrets. Say they're for shooting down asteroids or scaring off pirates or something.
