Title: XP fat32... thing
Post by: Bobboau on July 01, 2003, 09:40:04 pm
my new computer just arived and I am putting in the old (FAT32) HD, the problem, when it boots up it does not know what to do with the new HD, you can imagine the scare I go when I tryed to open the HD with five years of FS and art and 11GB of DLed... stuff... and it asked me if I wanted to format it
so I am wondering why it is acting bad
as I typed this I recall that the other drive didn't seem to have any jumper settings, this is probly the reason, but I will post anyway, someone tell me if this sounds like the problem

Win 2k tried to do that to me when I had any service pack installed, at first I .thought win 2k didn't like FAT.... but it happened to me again on NTFS (2 partitions didn't register with 2k and it tried to format one). I suspect it's the same problem with XP... hmmmm

I need to know more before addressing a proper answer to the issue!

Hard Drive Size?
Clusters Size?

here are some Microsoft Support Links that might help...;)

Are you using a controller card, i`m thinking yes, since you stated the pc was new.

As far as I know, master and slave jumper settings won`t do this kind of thing, but i maybe wrong so don`t quote me on that.

I was right, it was the jumpers, i fixed that problem.
now I need to figure why it isn't recognising any perifrials
if I plug anything (such as joy stick, scanner, printer) it doesn't seem to realise there is something new there
