I have restarted the Trivia thread here, I suggest we stop the previous at exactly 200 posts. It looks nice a thread closed and stopped at exactly 200 posts.
The first man enters this thread has the right to put up a question.
Oh! I am the first!
Question? :D
-
What was the first real-time first-person space combat game commercially released for a home computer?

Space Invaders? Asteroids?
-
pong?
hey...it could be in space...all that black
-
Wing Commander I?
Tie Fighter?
-
Elite?
What do you mean home computer?
It could be Ace I to on Commodore 64.
-
Aldo, you do know what "first-person" means, right?
Anyway, here's a hint-- This game directly inspired my handle.
-
Hey! This is not a question about FreeSpace! :ick
If you want to answer a question about FreeSpace, than this one is for you:
What was the callsign of the pilot, who sent a distress call to the GTI Riviera in the intro of FS1?
-

Next time stay a bit more aware. If you post a topic about closing the trivia topic when there are actually two on the board this sort of thing will happen :D
-
Callsign? as in a nickname?
I don't remember one, but:
Lt. Ash, Terran Patrol 3-9er
-
It's Lt. Ash, terran patrol, Wing Gamma, 3-9er
you forgot the 'Wing Gamma' bit..
-
Ooi vay!
Ahh well, since I've not seen the intro for 6 months at least...
-

Evident to don't ask questions about game history in the General FreeSpace forum ... :nervous:

I saw it yesterday. :D

Well! I blame the tea.

Can somebody rename this thread to 'When did you last see the FS1 intro?' :D
-
What was the name of the Rakshasa Cruiser in the mission where the Ravana first appears?
-
The Iblis? Or is that the Cain?

Freespace is a real-time first-person space combat game, so yes it is about Freespace.
And the answer is: Star Raiders (http://www.sonic.net/~nbs/star-raiders/). Released for the Atari 400/800 home computers in 1979. The enemies are called "Zylons". ;7

Now THAT was a game. I used to play the 2600 version obsessively. I still have the little add-on keypad controller that was necessary for the game. :D
-
Wow... if the hideous 2600 version impressed you, the original computer version would probably blow your head off. :D

It's the Asuras firing all guns!
Why are the Rakshasa-Lilith and the Aeolus-Lev upgrades so different? Please wait for my confirmation, probably I am not thinking on the same thing than you.

WTF? "Upgrades"? Those are all completely different ships.
-
Write down some differences. I am curious if you can hit exatly I am thinking about.
What's WTF? Wrecked Terran Fighter? :)
-
Okay, here we go:
Rakshasa/Lilith/Aeolus/Leviathan differences:
EVERYTHING
-
We need some better questions, this is too confusing. Anyway, I'll give it a go: presuming that you mean Fenris-Levi and Cain-Lilith, then it is the addition of the LRed main cannon on the Lilith, while the Fenris effectively only gets a hull strength upgrade to become the Leviathan. Yes, there are other subtle weapon loadout differences but that's the big one. Of course, if you are really comparing the different ships, then the terran cruisers each have 2 AAAf while the Shivan ones only have 1 each. Otherwise the change from FS1-era cruiser to FS2-era is generally equivalent from Terran to Shivan.
-
The correct answer would have been:
The Aeolus is better upgrade to the Lev than the Rakshasa to the Lilith, because The Aeolus has stronger hull than its predecessor. The Rakshasa is lighter cruiser than the Lilith.
You only would have had to compare the Aeolus-Rakshasa and then the Aeolus-Leviathan and the Rakshasa-Lilith. That simple.
How many weapons does the Deimos corvette have?
-
I'm thinking the translator microbes are having a little trouble with the word "trivia" here.
-

24.
How much time do you have in the final mission of FS2 before Capella goes boom?
-
50 seconds? I don't know if this is right so I won't post a question yet
-
IIRC its around 12 minutes
-
It's variable. You can even stop it entirely.
-
What are the eight main components of a Subspace Drive?
And so I haven't answered a question. This is a good one :)

Correct.
It's almost always 11-12 minutes.

The flux capacitor, hydrospanner, chronosynclastic infundibulator, antimatter confabulator, interocitor, rishathra router, zathras multiplexor, and a cup of tea.
-
you forgot Ducttape, lot's and lot's of Ducttape.

He didn't play it correctly, so his experiences don't count. Plus, he didn't really save Capella; the juggernauts could easily raze the planet with impunity.

:o ooooooooh, the whole mission. I thought you meant just the supernova warning timer thing.

What're you, MacGyver now?
I bet you tried to have Zeta 1 go find some paperclips and rubber-bands so you could fix the Trinity.

Perhaps, if you are actually looking at the tables. When you are shooting at them, they both die pretty easily. I believe though that the Rakshasa is designated a light cruiser, while the Aeolus is just a cruiser. But that's getting nitpicky.

That's 58 seconds. Somebody asked this in the previous trivia and that was unanswered: Which ship had the 'guardian' flag in the very last mission when the capella system encountered its fate.
That was DeepSpace9er's question. Otherwise, I don't know the answer, too. So this is not my turn of questioning.

no, i am not MacGyver, i just use ducttape a lot, my schoolbooks, my bike, even my friggin wallet are hanging together with the stuff.
and no, i was busy offing shivans.

It looks nobody is interested in this thread: What are the Terran losses of operation Tresher, before our hero joined the Galatea?
-
Terran Command estimated Terran losses at 504 pilots dead, fourteen missing and presumed dead. It did not go as planned either...
If you were in a fighter, sitting still on the end center of the flight deck on the exterior of a hostile orion, how many turrets would be able to fire upon you?
-
Two, one on the side of the ship, and one on the undernose.
-
geez... i thought was going to be hard...
-

Well, it is a short form of the saying "What the F***!" Whose words I can't use for obvious reasons, often accompanied by this expression:wtf: , WTF is used when someone is unsure of what is going on/being said, and is aggitated somewhat:mad:, so the exclamation of WTF is used. Less commonly, WTF can also translate into its more appropriate cousin "What the Fudge/Frak/Fork/etc.!" Used in the same situation, except the circumstance demand that more apropriate language is used. Other word replacements can include "Carp! dang it! Son of a Mitch!"

What level was the transmission of Kappa 3 classified, when it first appeared after the entire wing was vanished?
-
"All units, you will disregard Kappa 3's transmission. The communication record of this sortie has been classified level Phi."
How many times more expensive is the cost of building an orion compared to paying is crew for one year?
-
It says it far outweighs the cost of paying the crew for three years.
-
correct answer is a numb between 1 and 1 1/3... TopAce had the 3 part so...
-

The Cain's the Asuras (which was originally a Llith), and the Iblis is the Rakshasa.
Anyway, next question.
What are the first three words in the textboxes in the Colossus cutscene (yes, THOSE textboxes  )?

Maths is fun?

Classified Level Phi?

Okay. Here's a little bit of an odd one. Apart from the fighters & bombers which GTVA craft are small enough to fit through opening of an Orion class destroyer's fighterbay.
I counted at least 7.
-
guesses:
Support ships
-Cerberus
-Hygia
-both Vasudan ones
-Both escape pods (Hermes and Ra)
-GVT Isis
-
Yep. Those were the 7 I counted :) Anyone want to improve on that?
-
PVFr Bes
-
Disagree. The Bes is a little tall compared to the Isis.
-
Evil! Double post!
-
Watchdog and Alastor. Perhaps the Elysium.
-
Probably not the Elysium. Once again, it's a little tall. The Isis is wide, but about as tall as a fighter, so that lets it slip in.
-
Perhaps the Poseidon and the Argo, too.
-
The Azrael might fit too.
-
the argo is a bit too big, but only looks bad if you wactch it go through the hull :P
The poseidon may fit, along with the Chronos...
There are lost of shivan ships, like the mephesto, SJD, and such...
-
The Question is only GTVA ships.
-
I have the mad idea that the Navbouy, too.:nervous:
Or is it stupid? ;)
-
nav bouys and cargo... except that stupidly huge and easy to destroy shivan one... IS this becoming the "What can you fit through the orion fighterbay" thread? someone ask a new question
-
Well, it could. It's electronically generated, so I could "electronically generate" it inside an Orion, right in the Admiral's closet. :D

OK enough of this... I won the last question so it's on to the next.
In the 3rd-to-last mission of FS2, what is unusual about the Colossus? (Easy I know, but I can't think of anything better.)

Colossus fall down go boom. The Sath blows it up.

It's disabled yet the captain pretends that he's choosen to try to hold off the Sathanas rather than admitting he can do bugger all about it shooting at him.
-
It's not carrying BFGreens or LRBGreens, but TerSlashes and BGreens. I think...
Anyway, next: The Vasudans resemble what species from an old adventure game? (Hint: Temporal Security Agency, Blackwood, Legacy...)

And I've gotten the Elysium to depart to an Orion's fighterbay without any problems.

I think he means support ships.

The briefing says its fighterbay has been destroyed, but despite the Colossus launches Delta bombers(or Epsilon).Otherwise it starts always at 66% hull, despite if you could save it in the High Noon with 100% hull.
-

The Colossus has BGreens and TerSlashes by default. BFGreens and LRBGreens are only for use in the High noon mission.

A question about English: You spell 'Grey' or 'Gray'?

you are correct
and about english gray or grey is personal preference I think
I spell it 'gray'

'The Galatea has been destroyed, many lives, many friends are gone, everyone in the Alliance feel this loss deeply.'
Attempting ... surely not this is the one you were thinking of.
-
nope... looking for an exact number... (requires maths)
-
Anyway:
From my earlier post that no one bloody read
Anyway, next: The Vasudans resemble what species from an old adventure game?

10 000 - x
Something like this?
-
yes, but there are more variables to factor in...
-
stupid double post...
-
Let's clear one thing: In the case all escape pods survive?
-
doesn't matter,
...aboard the Galatea...
-
other variables
Like how many people survive long enough to reach the pods and how many pods are destroyed.
-
no
i can't tell you the other variables, because it makes the question too easy...
-
So we'll have to find the var, and we would be able to answer your question.
-
its not a variable that changes, but a number that must be factored in...
-
I'll be curious what the correct answer is.
-
should i just give you the answer? since no one seems to know what to do?
-

YES
-

We know what to do, write an equation and the result is the number you are thinking of.
-
I Agree with kasperl, no one would find this thing out in this millenna. :)
-
Ok, Galatea, 10000 crew...
Alpha, Beta, and Gamma from Evangelist, is seven.
10000-7=9993
The suppot ship from the same mision, is 1
9993-1=9992
Delta from Doomsday, is 2.
9992-2=9990
six escape pods, with 20 crew per pod.
9990-(6x20)=9870
The Galatea was destroyed with 9870 mmbers o the crew still aboard.
Replacement quetion; How do we know that a suport ship in Doomsday didn't come from the Galatea, bringing the count down to 9869?
-
was it launched from the Bastion?
-
You know it well, Hippo that it is far not certain a player calls in ONE support in both missions. If the player has mood to, he can even call in ten supports, or even a hundred, and it is also not possible that the player calls in even a single one in both missions.
Like if the Galatea is still alive, and is at the area, the player calls in the support, and that is always coming from subspace, not from the Galatea's hangar. So the support was coming from THERE.
-
correct :nervous:
-
What's the second generation Synaptic missile?
-
Was that the Havoc? Or am I thinking of something else entirely?
-
piranah
how many times are you instructed on how to detinate the piranah and inferno?
-
You're wrong, that's not the Piranha. :(
-

Yes, but, surprisingly enough, that wasn;tthe correct answer.
This isn;t a joke question -the answer is written down in the FS series... somewhere. You just need to find it. :p

isn't it in the tech room? or that time they have an animation of it because they figured out how to track the shivans through subspace?

Otherwise count the SJDs, too.

No, only those which are placed in the game, the SJDs, too. But the background not.
