Title: Weird Video CD problem
Post by: vyper on July 04, 2003, 12:32:19 pm
Okay, here's the deal

I buy two VCDs off ebay, I get em, stick em in the ol dvd drive (and cdrw at one point) but will they play? Will they hell.

Apps either say the format is unsupported, mci errors, or just plain die. I'm told they're in standard format, but they ain't cooperating. I'm runnig win2k. Any ideas?

What are you trying to run them with? Are you sure they are VCD and not SVCD (SVCD is encoded in MPEG2 which Media Player doesn't seem to like - Try a DVD player for that).

If you can't get them to run properly there is a work around for most VCDs I've seen. Open up the disk in explorer and go into the MPEGAV folder. Drag and drop the .dat file(s) into Media Player and they should work.

What did you try them in? Media player? Try doing the same thing but with your DVD software's playlist instead.

I've tried every application I've got.

HOWEVER: here is a development. I tried them in my father's old pentium system running win98, and the bog standard windows media player (remember the thin long one?) AND THEY FREAKING PLAY! So why can't they play up here on win2k?!
