Title: Too Fast Messages
Post by: McHaggis on July 04, 2003, 02:16:27 pm
Hi people.

I just bought Freespace 2 and as I play it the radio messages and texts on briefing go way too fast. I don't have time to read them. This is quite annoying since I'm new to this game and learning to play it. I haven't patched to game yet because I just downloaded the patch and haven't tried the game with it. If it makes some difference.

I'm running the game on WinXP and my hardware is following (if it has something to do about this matter):
Celeron 533MHz
512 Mbit RAM
GeForce 2 MX
(I guess that was everything 'important'.)

On the brieifing, you can hit the pause button.
In-game, press either F3 or F4 I can't remember which.

You, perchance do not have the HotU version, no?

In any case, it seems that your FS2_warble.vp seems to be in bad shape. You see, usually those messages are spoken as well as displayed. So check your FS2_Warble.vp size. If it's anything under 50-100 megs, then you've got a problem.

The briefings going to quickly is a known problem with the HotU download so chances are good that is the problem.

If you did download the HotU version McHaggis you don't need to hide it on this board. Everyone here is quite calm about that particular version.

You'll also find this (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/karajorma/freespace/hotu.html) page quite useful hopefully.

If you didn't download FS2 but actually bought it then the only advice I can give is to check you're using the latest drivers for your sound card.

We noticed Hippo. Ever considered the possibility he didn't tell the whole truth cause in general if you go to a game forum and ask for help with a game you didn't buy you get very badly flamed?

Thought not.

But here we're different, we ENCOURAGE people to download the HOTU version. We're kinda the ones who put it up there:D

You will get used to it to listen-maneuver-aim-fire at once. This is good why humans can speak, and we are not communicating with our hands to each other. :)

F4 is a really good stuff, you can follow the whole mission's procedure in the 'Events' window.

Err, Stuny, isn't music in the warble.vp? I thought messages were in stu_fs2.vp...

hit F4 and click messages, next to events and objectives.
