Archspace is back online and so is the Hard Light Guard! (Council #820)
Archspace is an online text-based game thats currently free (I pray to god that it doesnt goto P2P after the beta) That involves you controling a certain province, being one of eight races, conducting diplomacy, building your planets, researching, exploring, and of course MILITARY
I recommend you all try it, its a fun game.
Archspace Open Beta - GO HERE (http://space.magewar.com/beta/)
And remember, the Hard Light Guard still has room :)
P.S. The doomstar cheats are GONE!

I play, but im not sure if i'll stick arround for long. The turns go way too fast and there's no PAUSE feature for when you log out. So if you play at night until, say 11 and go to bed; By morning, over 50 turns will have passed. As far as I know, this fault could mean the death of your character without you even knowing. And your only means of revenge is if your council can stop killing its own and help you. Oh, and thats another thing, the BB function of your council is so easily compramised that you are discourraged from posting information there. The tedious task of investing money in a planet every 4 minutes gets annoying quickly. The fleet aspects of the game are sub par. Finally, the game's server is overloaded and goes down regularly.
Dont get me wrong. the game is horribly addictive, but it has its flaws.

Well if you could pause it wouldnt be much of a online game would it?

there just so happens to be a tool by that name, but i dont like to use tools in any game. it takes the fun out if all you have to do is open a html document and your empire runs itself.

Well at least they could have designed it so that your empire is invisible when you log out, and an empire pause isn't hard to do. Just move the game to JAVA and your empire could be paused very easily. Not to mention that it would run so much faster when some the tedious load of updating every single client's fleet page is taken off the server and handled by the client.

But would you want to have to leave it on 24 hours a day to actually research anything or get money?
If you only had it on while you were playing, you'd never get anywhere in the game.
-
bump!
FYI The main HLP council is now #820

True on the first point, but i beg to differ on the second. I think that MMORPG's like ultima online and evercrack prove your point wrong. When you're on, go wipe out a newbie and get his planets, the money just starts coming in there, and with 4 minute turns, you'd have to be in the top 10 most powerful to not get enough money to support your wreckless rampage through the cosmos.
EDIT: And, if your not getting enough money from wiping out newbies, go wipe out another player close to your rank. and if you are too wimpy to fight an even match, think of something to do. its the point of RPG's.

WARNING: AS is full of hackers. They screw up the game. I just quit due to that.
I fought a battle and destroyed most of my opponents fleet and none of mine. Though at the bottom it said I was completely destroyed and lost the battle. Later, in the battle report it said no ships even fought.
I hate buggy games who can't even stop hackers.

I think this is called overreaction...this is an unusual day because there's been ALOT of server attacks in the past 6 hours or so. Normally you only get crashes once or twice a day for normal reasons.
The server's just lagged up alot.
Did I mention they're just really pissed off because they cant cheat anymore?

Did I mention this could easily be avoided if they'd only installed proper security? I mean, if they can get so deep that they can change the code something MUST be wrong and I'm not logging onto a network thats under constant attack.
They should put this: "Archspace open beta! A little too open so use at your own discretion"
-
Well they're trying at least...they took down Battle Reports for now because it was an open gate for hackers to cheat.
