Hey I was just wondering- I haven't played FS2 in a while, but a great idea for a story struck me yesterday. Unfortunately I'm not very good at you know, writing and stuff. However, I know to play to my strengths, and I think it might be cool as a short FS2 single player campaign. Not that I'm tooting my own horn mind you, but I think I can make some cool missions (like the multiplayer mission Reciprocity (http://archives.volitionwatch.com/fs2/missions/missions.php3?Type=Top20User) at the Volitionwatch archive).
I was just wondering how active the community still is for that kinda thing, is there general interest out there for these things still?
If there is, I don't want to give too much away, but here's the basic set-up:
After the supernova "incident," things have calmed down a bit. You're just out on a regular patrol as part of a system's police/defense force, nothing too much going on. There's a GTD Orion nearby (I STILL think they're cooler looking than the Hecate :p), as-of-yet unnamed. But shortly into the mission, the SAME Orion warps in (both with same name are in-system at the same time) in pretty bad condition, no one's alive on it. Basically you're going to be investigating the circumstances over a couple missions.

I personally don't think a really long mod/campaign (Reciprocity, Inferno, Black Water Ops) would have a chance if it started now, but what you're thinking of can almost certainly be done.
Interesting storyline.

Sounds like a cool idea for a mini-camp (read 6 - 15 missions) if you go deeper into what is going on of course. And Mini-camps are good. We don't get too many of those.
And I think a biggish campaign can still work, it just takes a lot more time and dedication than it used to. Obviously not Inferno sized with 100 plus new ships, but something Derelict size or even BWO wouldn't be as hard as it looks methinks.
PS: Nice to see you round kenny

Oh Diamondgeezer- Yeah my MISSION Reciprocity is not to be confused with the CAMPAIGN of the same name. I just linked to it at the Volitionwatch archive under top 20 user missions. It's #10 I think, posted April 1 2000
I just happen to enjoy my mission, that's all. You know, general horn-tooting and all.
For the new campaign I'm not sure how big, probably small like 6 missions tops. But if there's failing interest in the FS2 community I may have to finish fleshing out the story and find another medium of delivery. We'll see :)

How do you want two ships to have the same name in a mission? I mean how do you want to make it in FRED?
-
Add ASCII or whatever their called characters to the name. They don't display in game, but they do in FRED IIRC.
-
Yeah, I've messed with that before when having a ship perform close-proximity jumps or something (when in FRED you basically need multiple ships to pull that off)
You can call them like "Orion," "GTD Orion," and "GTD Orion"
adding spaces here and there aren't noticable to the user as much, and FRED allows it.
