Oh yes. Now that I have more time than I know what to do with, I have decided to try and build a model of the Fenris, out of balso wood.
Now, I have no idea how I will do it, so does anyone have any suggestions?
EDIT: Hmm, does this really belong in FSModding?
-
Ye gods man, you really need to get yourself off the spoons!
Anyways, I don't think you'll buy a block of balsa wide enough from your average model store.... you may well have to buy several sheets and glue them together. Just be sure to use a really, really sharp knife, and take off tiny ammounts at a time. And if you're going to paint it, seal it with some sort of spray varnish first.

MY God! This man is insane!
-
Well that's what I've been thinking about.
I might build it in parts, and then attach them together.
The nose could be one piece, then the central part, then the engines, the stalk bit would be another, and finally the turrets.

Hmm... There was a guy on the VBB who did this with the Orion.

Turrets? You're having a bubbly bath my pedigree chum.
-
Hmm, after giving it thought, I have decided to make the model in parts, and attach them, as I said earlier. However, in order to do this, I will need the separate parts to be able to work from.
To this end, I shall ask a favour of the modellers out there. Can someone with modelling experience please take the Fenris model, and cut it where I have marked?

this man must have access to large amounts of ganja....
only a stoner would want to do something like that...
....
I must have access as well..

Anyone have the link? I saw it once a long time ago but never could find it again.

Wasn't that Artimus? The d00d that did the Freakspace comic strip?
-
Nooo!!!!!!!!!!! Make a Levyathan, not a weak Fenris!!!!!11111onetwo
-
Make a Fenris then call it a Leviathan, there's a compromise.
I'd be interested to see if you could pull this off. If you do, I would definantly try myself (provided it doesn't cost too much)
-
Full scale? ;7

we need to have you committed, you know that?:p
mind you.. i've seen photos of a warhammer40k scale warlord titan...(venom would know what i mean...) i'll see if i can get pics

Someone needs to illustrate the full-size scale of a Fenris. Overlay it with a few football fields, or something. ;)
-
It's what, almost three football fields in length? An Apollo's a gmae winning touchdown.:D
-
Also, I could build a few cargo containers with the offcuts, as they should be quite simple.
-
This is the best idea I've ever heard. All hail Petrarch of the long deceased BB.

what scale?
and
when was your last CAT scan?
-
Did someone mention scale? :D The decks are 2.5 meters high IIRC.

Freespace deck heights are 2.5 meters, eh? Does that include the structal beams, spacing for cables, pipes etc?
OR,
Is that the height from the deck (on which you stand) to the 'Ceiling', or the height to the next deck above you (which your friend/lover/worst enemy is standing)?
'trying to work out how many decks there would be in his destroyer, the GTD Saturn, so he can do the textures properly'
Petrarch, good luck buddy. I would really like to see it, when your done.:yes:

Yah, all the Epic stuff can be bought in 40K scale if you have the money... just can't remember the name of the company that does 'em... you can get the Thunderhawk from GW mailorder, it's £400
-
this was a custom job for a golden demon...
Excuse the big line in the middle, i scanned this over 2-pages from a mag..

You can get the other titans and Baneblade-sized tanks though, I've seen the complete range somewhere...
-
Hmm, would it be possible for some model company to build kits of a few of the FS ships?
We can dream....

Eventually, perhaps... it was geared for a FS -> Serious Sam TC, which never really got off the ground due to army reserves interrupting me right at the get-go.

That one, IMHO - and it's not a canon measurement, it's just me eyeballing the corridor in the Silent Threat extra movie thing. ;)
EDIT: Actually, it's the space between the floor and the ceiling - add another 0.5-1 meters between decks for pipes and stuff. :)

at Forgeworld.
But a Warhound (the one available at forgeworld)is nothing like a Warlord ( the one shown above ) size-wise ;). The Warlord on 40K scale would be around 1m, 1m50 tall, I suppose. And I'm NOT gonna talk about the Imperator :p

[color=66ff00]Impressive bit of modelmaking Turnsky but a damn ugly subject. :blah:

precisely, like i said, this was for a golden demon (in 2000 methinks) completely fan-built...

I made an Orion in ceramics at school. It was about a foot long, but i only had 3 days to do it in, rather than 10 like I was supposed to have. It's not "anatomically correct" as I made it in such a hurry, a certain side sticks out that's not supposed to, and one side is completely flat, and has no turrets. And i still haven't gotten in back either... it took to long to dry after being fired in the Kiln, gotta wait until school starts again.
We should start a project... everyone choose and build an FS ship, and make sure we build them all to scale.

Clay? A CLAY Orion?
