If anyone had the root_fs2.vp from version 1.2 it would be greatly appreciated. I'm having some problems with the table files because I only have the v1.0 file.
Cheers!

Oh ya if you have it you can just upload it to the FTP server listed in the sticky.
Cheers!

No problem. I did say I'd upload something around this time :)

Thanks a lot for your help karajorma.
Cheers! :)

No problem. What was wrong with the root.vp you had? Was it just cause you hadn't run the patch from 1.0 to 1.2?
-
THe problem was that I only had the old version, from 1.0. I can't use any of the patches since I don't have the original Freespace1.0 exe file.
What I am thinking right now is that maybe I can get someone to upload the original freespace.exe from the CD. That way, people can download it and then use the patches. I think that would work, because other than the updated exe files and the root_fs I don't know what other files the 1.2 patch updates?
You see because I had downloaded the version off Kazaa which was 1.2, and I took the updated craked 1.2 exe, and used that. I also notices the root_fs version was different from the 1.0 version.
I should check the other files as well.
Also, another question.
What are the tangoa_fs2 and the tangob_fs2 that I have in the HOTU fs2 directory? the vp lists itself as ?.
Cheers!

Oh yeah, I was also wondering if I could get the sparky_fs.vp files. The one I have from the hotu download is 132KB and the one in the demo is 66MB. I'm wondering how big the one is in the offcial FS2?
-
IIRC the HOTU version doesn't use the vp, but already extracted the files to the directorys, look in /data/textures or something to check.

I think Stryke 9 is the person to ask since he is directly responsible for their creation :)
I got most of my information about the HotU version from various threads either here or especially on VWBB. I've never actually even downloaded the file myself let alone installed it :)
However from what I've been able to piece together the tangoa & tangob files appear to be dummy files of some sort. I believe their purpose is to prevent FS2 asking for CD2 & 3 so that they can load the command briefing animations (Either that or they prevent it from doing the same thing but so as to load the cutscenes).
The sparky_fs.vp from HotU is also a dummy file AFAIK. All the files needed actually live in the data folder. It's worth putting up a copy of the real Sparky_vp as without you can't install mods by simply copying the data folder (which means you can't use FS2_open's -mod option to switch between mods).
If no one else does it I'll try uploading it later tonight.

also, perhaps it is an idea to make another rip, keeping everything aside from the mve files, and putting the SCP with some avi's or divx's instead. it would be huge, but it would get a n00b everything he needed at once.
and it would make it easier to create cd's to shove down other throats.
-
Kasperl, that's what I was thinking as well. But maybe more along the lines of putting everthing into apacking that someone who downloads the HOTU version can log on, downloads, and then have a readme in there telling them exactly what to put in and what to delete in the data folder for everthing to work.
I may do this later.
Cheers!

the problem is that HOTU is really, really slow, and not all that apporpriate for mass destribution. i think it would be better to have one file for someone to downlaod, then run, and then he or she would be able to play FS2, with music, cb-anims, voice, cutscenes, everyithing.
