Title: POF CS compiler update - big news
Post by: Kazan on May 06, 2001, 11:27:00 am
Are you having fun keeping up with my Revisions POF CS v0.41.0 w/ COB-POF 0.35.0 at http://alliance.sourceforge.net (//"http://alliance.sourceforge.net")

POF Compiler Notes:

Turret AutoGen is in!  The Naming convention is as follows - Non Rotating turrets should be "TurretNN[anything]" It's case insensative and the name is preserved [anything] is obvious and NN is the turret number [start counting at 01 and always have two or more digits, ie 01, 02, 10, etc].
Multipart turrets should be "TurretNN-Base[anything]" for the base and "TurretNN-Arms[anything]" or "TurretNN-Barrels[anything]" for the arms/barrels [I use different names depending on turret size/usage].  All generated turrets will have no firepoints and normals of (0,0,0).  Later builds will have the firepoint def via lights

If you want the center of a object at a certain location [ie for rotating objects] put a light in the world at that location and name it "center_[subojectname]" where [subojectname] is the name of the subobject that is suppose to be the center of.

Technicals! AAH! What I know about POFs and coding and whatnot you could put on a pin-head with a dull-edged sword. (Where did I read that?)  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

I tried it on my unfinished model, it found and converted 0 vertexs, faces, and polys. I ended up with a 238 byte POF of nothing.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif)

What gives?

The model was converted straight from untextured 3DS to COB to POF. 3DS to COB was done with 3DE.

??? Why converting the 3ds file to a cob file with 3d exploration? Why don't you just open the 3ds file in truespace (yes it can)? Oh well, never mind...

It's because you didn't group the objects, my compiler will ignore any ungrouped object

why can't someone write a 3ds--POF converter and cut out the 3D exploration/truespace bit altogether...
