Title: Inferno for the masses
Post by: SadisticSid on July 16, 2003, 07:08:08 am
Inferno's first chapter has been released. There's a single VP file version on the way but for now you can download these individual packs:

Core files (http://www.fileplanet.com/dl.aspx?/3dactionplanet/hlp/hosted/inferno/inf_core.exe)
EA fleet (http://www.fileplanet.com/dl.aspx?/3dactionplanet/hlp/hosted/inferno/inf_ea.exe)
Terran fleet (http://www.fileplanet.com/dl.aspx?/3dactionplanet/hlp/hosted/inferno/inf_terran.exe)
SOC and Vasudan fleets (http://www.fileplanet.com/dl.aspx?/3dactionplanet/hlp/hosted/inferno/INF_SOCVas.exe)
Shivan and Ancient fleets (http://www.fileplanet.com/dl.aspx?/3dactionplanet/hlp/hosted/inferno/inf_enemies.exe)
GTVA chapter 1 campaign (http://www.fileplanet.com/dl.aspx?/3dactionplanet/hlp/hosted/inferno/inf_gtva_ch1.exe)

Animated command briefs (http://www.fileplanet.com/dl.aspx?/3dactionplanet/hlp/hosted/inferno/inf_cb_gtva1.exe) - optional

If you have any problems the best solution is to install a fresh copy of FS2. Extract all the VPs into your FS2 folder (not the data/ subdirectory) and it should all be fine. Also, if you want to avoid problems with the techroom you need to create a new pilot when you start up FS2.

That's all there is, really. Refer to the Inferno forum if you've got any problems.

EDIT: Here's (http://www.fileplanet.com/dl.aspx?/3dactionplanet/hlp/hosted/inferno/inf_release1.exe) the single installer version. Should be fairly self-explanatory. :)

Sid.

Full version is now avaliable. All packs should be on the site now too.
http://www.fileplanet.com/dl.aspx?/3dactionplanet/hlp/hosted/inferno/inf_release1.exe

Some extra files:
http://www.woomeister.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/INF_Tools.exe

Files for Kazans background generator:
Nebulae.lst
Suns.lst

modviw32.dir makes modelview parse all our models like it does the FS1/2 ones (so they show up in groups on the sidebar when a VP is opened)

should work with any version of modelview that has a modviw32.dir file.

You should backup the current files in case you need them.

Take a look at Free Terran's post and the reply. I suspect you've made the same mistake.

if that is true, then Fred _should_ pop up an error about not being able to find a ship type...

I'm in contact with Gamespy right now...

As for the installer, make sure you install to the FS2 root directory, not the data folder. Make sure there's no other tables, and make sure your not trying to play the regular FS2 campaign with the INF mods installed.

If that fails try extracting the tables to the data\tables folder using VP View.

So are you guys done making the mods for this? Are you just Fredding now?

I'm really looking forward to the complete Inferno.

Hmm. I downloaded the full install from Fileplanet. Its 135mb just the confirm that thats the one. It gets to 50% installarion and then freezes. I left it to run for about 3-4 minutes, and still nothing.

I'm really looking forward to playing it, so do you think there is solution to the problem?

well there's nothing wrong with the installer itself, it was tested by a few people including myself.

Exact size according to my OS is
141,998,100 bytes

You did actually remember to go to the campaign room and choose the inferno campaign didn't you?

If that's not the problem do a search of your freespace directory and look for a file called ships.tbl. If you find it that's the cause of your problems.

Basically creating a new Data folder will probably solve that problem. Have a look in my FAQ (the directory section) for more info.

I just downloaded and tested the single installer version. It works perfectly. The reason it stops at 50% is because it installs two files - one (comparatively tiny) Readme file and then the 230MB VP file, which does take a long while to extract on slower systems. If things are going wrong it's got nothing to do with the file's integrity.

After all that time, NO VOICE-ACTING?!
Title: Inferno for the masses
Post by: Woomeister on July 17, 2003, 02:47:29 pm
We can't do full voice acting as if we did and someone quits after 1 chapter, and there character is in another chapter, it would of caused a lot of problems.
We are planning briefing only acting, but I wasn't holding the campaign back a few months just for that.

After playing a lot of campaigns without voice files, you kind of get used to it.  Besides, Inferno carries itself without needing special files like that.    Reading never killed anyone, oh wait, it killed me once, damn Dragons.

actually, I downloaded the single installer version, and all ships shows up as ulysses, including your own. oh, you also start out without primary weapons, but they show up if you call for restocking of your missiles. makes protecting the carolina in the first mission really difficult, tho.

If you are using the SCP, don't, and make sure your tables and models directories are empty.  You may need to create a new Data folder.  This has been said before, and I don't want to sound critical, but read everything in the topic before posting.

you ignorant p**ck.

I use the regular fs2.exe. I have made sure that my data directory was empty. I also created a new data directory and I extracted the files in the vp there. doing that last thing solved most of it, except a load-out problem in mission 1.

Hey masses out there!

I ran regualr FS2 1.0 and Inferno ran like a dream (must be your machines)... Except for the fact that I handed my butt shot off numerous times I LOVED it immensely!!!

Definately worth the DL Time it takes, as for installation I have a 1.8gigP4 and it still took a LONG ass time to install so it's not an error, just a HUGE amount of carp to install (like almost ALL the ships there aren't missions for yet!) That's right people you get ALL the toys now!!! If that isn't worth a little wait time, I dunno what is?

Kudos to Inferno team once again, an outstanding job (now hurry up and churn out those other 3 chapters!!!!) Kidding...

ok PLEASE!!! Hehehheh I need more Inferno fix! :nervous:
