After a lot of speculation and talks with the powers that be during Season 6, and after making certain concessions for Richard Dean Anderson's (MacGyver/Colonel O'Neill) private life, Season 7 was confirmed and went into production much to the joy of the loyal army of Stargate fans.
Now, as Season 7 enters the half-way stage of production, TV-Guide comes through with news of a joyous event; Season 8.
Apparently, where the spin-off and film were moved back to accomodate a Seventh Season, Season 8 will run along side the spin-off and the movie has been converted into the Season 7 Finale.
Anyway, here's the link to the Gateworld Report (http://www.gateworld.net/news/generalnews.html#newsitem1058371937,3257,).
Yipee!
I just hope they don't kill it.

now all I need is sci-fi....

This is like three Christmases at once... I didn't even realise they were making a movie. Awesome, thanks for the news.

which is funny seeing that the entire series was based off a movie:D ... i like the stargate itself in the movie... less glowy **** on the ring..

I guess Sci-fi have finally realised that if they get rid of Stargate they won't have any sci-fi set in space left! :)
As for the movie how is it great news that it gets turned into a TV movie? I suppose it's good that they won't have to dumb the plotline down for those who don't watch the series but I wouldn't have minded going to the cinema to see another Stargate movie.
-
Apparently, after Sci-Fi butchered the original concepts from the movie (pleasant as the results were) the guy who made Stargate was trying to make some true sequels for a while. Dunno what happened with that though.
There were to be no Goa'uld and the posession aliens (who built the gates) would be energy-beings like in the original movie and I think there'd still only be two gates.
I loved the film, it was all dark and evil. But I like the series just as much so any Stargate movie is good in my books.
-
OK, the last 'new' SG1 I saw had a half-ascended Goauld, and Skara ascending to wherever it was Jackson went... which season finale was that?
-
Finale season 6
-
Right, so season 7 = good thing for me. Excellent :drevil:
-
the only thing I'm realy worried about is the way there trying to make so much humor it's goa ruin the origonal feel of the show, seson 7 premere was a good example of this, with all the star wars jokes and what not.
-
There's always been quite a bit of humour in Stargate. Hell, in the first episode they mention McGyvering something together :D
To be honest I think it's quite realistic the way that they occasionally mention other Sci-fi cause that's what real people would do :)

Come on, that episode ruled.

I take it you missed Unnatural Selection?
Jack: They didn't go for it.
Sam: They didn't approve the mission?
Jack: Oh no, they did that. Once they knew the stakes and the Fate of the Universe stuff, both the President and Hammond realized we had no choice. He sends good luck, godspeed, and all those things he says when he thinks we're going to die.
Sam: So what didn't they go for?
Jack: The name I suggested.
Sam: For the ship.
Jack: Yeah.
Sam: Sir, we can't call it the Enterprise.
Jack: Why not?
Sam: The codename for the project is Prometheus. What's wrong with that?
Jack: It's a Greek tragedy. Who wants that?

Heh, that one was great too. His questions about the weapon systems also were damn funny.

Humour = good. Especially in sci-fi...... were it's often obvious that the writers have their heads stuck up their own arses in the belief they're making something which is more improtant than entertainment. Star Trek and B5 stand as prime examples IMO, for varying reasons. SG1 actually has a sense of the whole absurdity, and understands it's entertainment. Hence, it's the only sci-fi series I watch.
Methinks the series resemble Buffy the Vampire Slayer in that it's actually a hell of a lot more successful than the movie it's based on... shows the advantages of being able to build up as consistent universe, rather than cram it into some stunning 5 minute speech by a character in a film.
-
I'd say StarWars and StarTrek have their heads up their asses in how serious they take themselves.
B5 had a bit of humor tossed in it, not as much as Stargate though.
-
I agree with Aldo mostly but B5 had some great humourous moments in it. I could name 10 or so without having to draw breath but this is a SG-1 thread so I'll try to avoid dragging it off topic :)

I dunno..i think B5 lost it in the latter series, after the end of the Earth civil war.... peace gets a bit dull IMO.... I wouldn't hold it in the same level of contempt as i do Star Trek, so my description does come off as a bit harsh. But I watched the whole series' when it was shown on Bravo (largely due to the B5 mod raising my interest), and I find it harder to re-watch than a lot of other shows (SG1 being a good example, the Simpsons being the pinnacle). Anyways, best not start a war over TV series........

Alien: then we'll rondevue with your fleet.
Jackson: ...Fleet?
Alien: Earth does have a fleet, doesn't it?
Jackson: Well, we have a number of...
Jackson and O'Neal: Shuttles.
Alien: These shuttles, they are formitable ships?
Jackson: ...Yeah.

:)
Gotta admit, it's in the delivery though...............

Same here, I like them both, but I find hard to take the series as a sequel to the movie ( the goahuld or whatever you spell that, have nothing to do with Ra from the movie, which would be more like an Asgard if you ask me ). Ah well, whatever.

I can watch B5 over and over again and not get bored so I guess it's a matter of taste :)
As for series 5 the reason it was poorer than the earlier stuff is cause JMS was forced to wrap up his five year plotline after only 4 years since they didn't know theyd get a 5th series. JMS has said that he had intended to end seaon 4 with the episode where Sheridan gets tortured.
Add to that the fact that Claudia Christian wasn't in series 5 and you lose a lot (CC was the source of a lot of the humour in B5 and Tracy Scoggins didn't quite have her sense of comic timing).
That said some of the best episodes of B5 were in season 5. Examples include
A View from the Gallery (http://www.midwinter.com/lurk/countries/us/guide/092.html), The Corps is Mother, The Corps is Father (http://www.midwinter.com/lurk/countries/us/guide/101.html) and everything after And All My Dreams, Torn Asunder (http://www.midwinter.com/lurk/countries/us/guide/104.html)

You know, I've been watching SG1, when I suddenly realized I had never seen the movie
I'm going to have to rent that sometime....

*ding dong*
Jack; Hey Sam, how are you feeling? We brought you pizza and a movie.
Tealc; Star Wars...
Jack; His favorite, you've seen it what, eight times?
Tealc; Nine...

I believe that's an Asgard quote... gotta love the Asgard. :D

no I think that was bretack (however the made up name is splled) after he had warned SG1 about an impending goa'ould atack
and I didn't say I didn't like the uhmor at all, but I think sometimes it goes too far, wile full circle was quite ass kicking, I think the whole death star thing was teken just a bit too far, so long as this level is not constant I'll be happy, but I wan't SG to remain primarily a dramatic action thing, not a comedy... thing
-
Well, the thing is that most of the episodes don't have so blatant humor, but there's always something to lighten up. And occasionally there's the "comedy" episode, like Window of Opportunity ("In the middle of my backswing!!") and 1969 ("I'll tell you the truth, Bob. My name is not Kirk. It's Skywalker. Luke Skywalker."). There's also the ending of Bane - I was laughing for fifteen minutes straight after the episode ended.
All in all it's a very well balanced series, and damn fun to watch - I've started to watch all episodes from the beginning two months ago or so, and the quality is remarkably consistent. Story continuity rules too, they often refer to discoveries and people from previous episodes and stuff like that.
-
What was funny was when O'Neil was suffering with radiation sickness (IIRC), and he stands up from his bed a falls right back done to the floor. I struggled to rewind the tape to watch it again, I was laughing so hard. Jackson and O'Neil's conversation in the lift in the season 6 finale was also most amusing
But the real comic genius of SG1 is Christopher Judge - Teal'c is without a doubt one of the funniest dead-pan men in TV. He's also a suprisingly good writer - I really quite liked that episode he wrote where Teal'c was dreaming he was a fireman. And he proved his acting ability in the one where O'Neil and Teal'c swapped bodies... Judge did an absolutely superb impersonation of RDA, right down to the smallest inflection and facial twitch. Nuff respect to a guy who's basically playing a hard version of Spock, designed to make RDA look funnier then he actually is.
I'm still bitter about the Replicators, though. That said, that one where SG1 found the android girl and brought here back to the mountain was cool - when that Replicator creapt out from behind the book shelf it made me sit right up :D

Love the series...hate it that since Sci-Fi took it over I haven't seen a new episode on TV. They aren't selling to the Canadian audience up here...nevermind the fact that its filmed in Canada.
Apparently SPACE channel has something going for it to get the series however...we'll see what happens. Crossing fingers.
Maybe the DVD's will get here first tho...who knows.
-
they show it on fox here in the afternoons. not quite sure what time.
Amanda Tapping's acting is a bit lacking.
-
you could always download them, but that would be wrong...
;)

Yeah, we got through about half of Season 5, and since then we've had nothing. I'm definitely getting the DVDs.
-
Sky-1 also shows SG1.....
i prefer to get 350meg rips from the net :)
-
I never could figure out how Teal'c could dream that he's a regular-joe human firefighter when Teal'c doesn't possess the knowledge to have such a dream in the first place.
-
how would you know?
Sesquipedalian- what do you say we hook up sometime and head on down to the set? PLEEAASE?:)
-
Ah but you forget, it wasn't just a dream, was it?
It was all just a metaphorical hallucination induced by Danny boy. And considering he could blow up a planet on a whim, methinks he'd find it pretty easy to gather enough info on the US fire services to create a realistic dream world.
-
actually, it was just a dream created by teal'c, danny boy just stepped in and gave him a couple hints, and who knows, maybe he watches more tv than we know when not on duty
-
Well he's seen Star Wars 9 times so anything's possible.
-
Maybe he'd seen a documentary on the Discovery channel about firemen. I assume the USAF has cable.

'Window of Opperunities' is like one of the funniest,
Jack: What could possibly be in my eye that could explain this?
Among other things.
-
I just got back from a three week trip from France and as I got home I was readily able to watch the latest episode of Stargate since I also missed the past two weeks of it. But unfortuneatly they had to play TREMORS and never even played it I can't believe that they did that but fortuneatly this topic has brought back my love for Stargate since there is gonna be an 8th season.

Is that the time lapse one? Seeing Teal'c juggle is enough to make me crack up. :D

Stargate: Atlantis
They're makin a SG-1 spin-off. It takes place underwater(i dont get how) and follows a team of civvies lead by a women. I dont understand at all.
-
Stargate Atlantis is supposed to be a spinoff series which revolves around an off world SGC base which is supposed to be ran by O'Neil since he is going to be promoted to General or something. But the team that the show focuses on is a civilian team who investigate alien technology or something like that.:D
-
In the Season 6 Finale, Jonas finds a tablet that talks about the Lost City of the Ancients, Atlantis. Sometime during the remainder of Season 7, they will discover the location of Atlantis and it will probably be a race against time to get there before Anubis.
-
lol you guys are insane
STARGATE ATLANTIS
Is Stargate SG-1 and the upcoming feature film the end of the Stargate story? No way! Executive producer Brad Wright announced in September, 2001, that the story goes on: Stargate Atlantis, a brand new television show, is in the works!
WHAT IS IT?
In TV Land, they call it a "spin-off." Atlantis is a new series set in the Stargate universe, probably after the events of SG-1 and the next feature film.
WHAT'S THE PREMISE?
Here's how The Sci-Fi Channel describes the show, in their first press release about it (March 31, 2003):
A whole new adventure with a new team begins in the successful Stargate universe. In this spin-off from MGM Worldwide Television, a secret base left by the originators of the Stargate is found in the most unlikely of places: on Earth, buried within the ruins of the legendary civilization Atlantis. The implications of this discovery lead the team to a distant universe, where they find a primitive human civilization threatened by a sinister new enemy.
The producers intended to set up the premise for Atlantis with an SG-1 feature film, but instead will tell that story in a 2-part finale for Season Seven of Stargate SG-1 (airing in early 2004). Creator Brad Wright told fans that the new series will not be based on a military team. Executive producer Robert C. Cooper has said that the film's story "evolves the Stargate."
The search for the Lost City of the Ancients (the builders of the Stargate network) will occupy SG-1 during Season Seven.
WHO WILL BE IN IT?
Casting has not yet begun for the show, and it's unknown which characters might appear in the new series. Most likely, it will be a new cast and a new set of characters. While SG-1 cast members could (and probably will, according to SG-1 executive producer Joseph Mallozzi) make guest appearances, don't count on any of the show's regulars to sign on to be regulars on Atlantis.
WHERE WILL IT AIR?
Stargate Atlantis is in currently development for The Sci-Fi Channel in the U.S. Most likely, it will also air in U.S. syndication a year or so later (as SG-1 does currently).
WHEN WILL IT AIR?
Sci-Fi is currently anticipating that Atlantis will be a part of its 2004-2005 schedule, meaning it could debut in June, 2004. It's still up in the air, as MGM and Sci-Fi decide whether the franchise will continue with an eighth season of SG-1, a feature film, Atlantis, or some combination thereof.
