Maybe I wasn't the only one who noticed, but it seems like the release of the first chapter of Inferno (the campaign) went pretty much unnoticed. From what I gather it's the biggest thing to happen in quite a few months for FreeSpace 2.
http://www.fileplanet.com/files/120000/127705.shtml
My question is, are we still interested in being FreeSpacers? Or has the game really lost all its lustre to us? Anyway, my download is up to 22%.

plus 70 for this one:
http://www.fileplanet.com/dl.aspx?/3dactionplanet/hlp/hosted/inferno/inf_release1.exe
and about 60 for the smaller VP version
-
That's a little more encouraging... oops. :D Still, I've heard surprisingly little about this, when it seems to be the biggest campaign on all of HLP. I mean, I was just browsing the tech room... took me close to an hour looking at all the pretty new ships :p

Here's a dump of the current download numbers so far for each file:
INF_Core: 65
INF_EA: 442
INF_Terran: 146
INF_SOCVas: 107
INF_Enemies: 63
INF_GTVA_CH1: 59
INF_CB_GTVA1: 49
INF_Main: 30 (GS Version)
INF_Main: 70

Thanks for pointing this out - Re-installing FS2 now (pulling the 134mb version from GS)...
-
I have to say that the launch was rather low key. No one was expecting it and I only recognised it was a release thread after opening it and reading it!
There are probably loads of people who don't even know it's out yet. (BTW has this been pimped on F2S or VW yet?).
-
Actually, I didn't know about this at all until now. :p I will try it out tonight if I get some time.
-
It needs to be blared all over the news page.

Anyone care to talk to Gamespy about putting it up on their Mod Watch thing on Gamespydaily.com?
Other news sources, such as ve3d.com and homelanfed.com ought to be contacted. Bluesnews already has the news post, check my thread in the Inferno forum.
The number of downloads is a really good indicator of how FS2's popularity s holding up. Don't settle for a few measly downloads guys. Hundreds. Thousands. Millions!!:thepimp: :thepimp:
-
Maeglamor, a link from your news post would help. ;)
-
*pssst* Maeg, add links!
-
I kept it low profile as we had been close to release before, and then it wasn't released for over a year. Also we've been very busy testing and checking everything. I didn't have the time to do a mass pimp over the entire community :D
-
[color=66ff00]No, cause then you have to look around you lazy buggers. ;)

Eegad.. there's a 15 minute wait on all of the first site's servers, and no ait on the premium ones...
Lol.. Mirror two is still good tho. But it takes sodamn long to DL this... I'm only DLing at 171Kb/sec... I can get 725 on Adobe's servers... :(
-
Well poor me had to upload it at 14kb/sec, took 3 hours and 2 attempts at it. Then it took me 45 mins to download it for testing :D
-
171kb/s is bad?
I haven't tried it yet. I downloaded it once, it wouldn't install. So now I downloaded it again, but my good computer is being fixed, so I have to wait
-
better than the 39 I was getting while downloading it :D

It is when you're used to 500+.
-
Damn it!! My ZIP drive only holds 100 mb! Now I can't take advantage of the awesome installer!

Lol, this thread wasn't completely pointless then. :D

Now you can't even take advantage of the game. ;)
If you have WinZip, you might be able to use the file splitter to chop the big install file into two components.

here I am, lucky to hit 3 Kbs...
-
plus 5 download from Gamespot insider area;)
if my friend is not liar:)

At least I had managed to finish downloading all elements of the multi-VP version before DSL went down. Imagine what it would be like to download 150MB at 3kb/second...:shaking:
-
3kbs... :blah: I feel sorry for you, Hippo. I truly do...
-
I used to get that kind of speed in my 56k days; best thing then was to start it in the night before going to sleep and it would (usually) be done by the next morning.
-
I spent 40 hours downloading the Halo 2 E3 Demo off bungies website...
-
I got the full version, in two nights, from Fileplanet, on 56k. It's not so bad a download time really.
-
I just got it all - one night, one ten hour connection. Beauty. :D
