Title: How long does it take to make a campaing from scratch?

Hi,

I am a new freespace 2 player and I love it.

I know I'm a bit late to play it, 2 years after it has been released, but he! never to late. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/spineyes.gif)

I haven't play the multiplayer on the net yet and I wonder how much lag there is with space sim multi...

And regarding the new compaign, I will have to finish the main game first but I was wondering all long it take to make one.

Ho, and by the way, what is the next game to watch for?

A long, long time. Longer, if you want to have your own mods in it. Shorter, if you don't have any mods.

Depending on how ambitious you are, a new campaign can take you anywhere from a few days to over a year to create. Having a large storyline, a well-maintained site, an extensive mission tree or using lots of mods in your campaign will all contribute to the time required for you to spend to complete your project.

As for the next game to watch out for, HLP has dibs on the two best ones already. Freelancer, sequel to Starlancer, and Independence War 2. Both are very different to FS2 in the way they play, so they should be good to look at and contrast different modes of gameplay.

And regarding the net multi...
Is there still a communauty playing or am I to late...

I don't dare to play yet as I want at least to finish the single player mission to be able to face any of you...

Is the net code good or is it unplayable?

It's not bad. Not excellent, but by no means unplayable.

I just don't play online much these days.

I try to play multi for the first time on PXO.
But my P.C. displayed no server!

Thing is, most of what goes on here is modding.....and modding + multiplay don't tend to get along very well, because if you have modified .tbls (essential for pretty much ANY mod, you don't get points)

I don't care about points..

I would just like to play with other people.

I just got this big brand new P.C. and trow away my 486 33.
I had finish Xwing and Tie fighter.

Got Freespace 2 and my dream was to fight with real people to see how good or bad I am.

FS2 is old now, so what space sim is play on the net at the moment?
I heard about another game called "Tachion", is that played on the net and is it better than FS2?

It's newer, but definatly not better IMHO.

At the moment, there aren't many new space sims.  Of the recent ones, the big ones are Tachyon, Starlancer and FS2.

Hi, I'm new to all this. I really enjoyed both FS games, and I was wondering whether there was a consensus on a good campaign to download and its location.

Thanks. I don't know about you, but I thought StarLancer was awful: bad plot, stupid missions and rubbish ships.

I'd say FS2 mostly.  AFAIK, it's got the most robust multiplay.

Space sims are out of fashion. It's all about first person shooters right now.

I think you can make standalone servers? Never tried multiplay, as I get 1000ms pings, hehe  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif).

And don't worry about FS2 being old - it is the most moddable and for-mission-makable space-sim there is, and there are LOADS of good campaigns coming out (like mine!)

It has the best graphics in a space-sim ever. Starlancer was wormmeal compared to it.

Starlancer was another way of saying; "Wing Commander VI; We've Run Out Of Ideas".

At the risk of noone ever talking to me again, why are there not going to be any more official (ie Volition) FS games? Sorry if this pisses people off, but I genuinely don't know.

Interplay owns the rights to the Freespace series and Volition moved to THQ.

theres talk of a source code release...

of course i'm sure that a disassembler would be helpful though.

I doubt the source code will ever be released. It's been months since it was requested, and no news.
