Title: Locus in the argand diagram
Post by: Top Gun on July 20, 2003, 12:19:42 pm
Sorry to post this as a thread (remove if you wish) but if i was asked for the locus |z| = x then it would be a circle of radius x and centred at the origin.

|z + 2| = x would have a circular locus centred at (-2,0) and have a radius x

BUT would |z + 2i| = x's locus be centred at (0,2) or (0,-2)?

It is at (0,-2) in that case; in general the center of |x-c|=r is at c.

How do we know that you are genuinely math nerds and not just writing gibberish to try and fool us?

You don't, but you would know one way or the other if you just got off your ass and got an education.

I wouldn't be so quick to jump to assumptions if I were you. It seems the concept of a joke is a little beyond your bounds maybe?

[color=66ff00]I have an apprentice engineer's background in electronics, I have a good knowledge of biology, english and many other subjects. I find mathematics utterly numbing though and so have not decided to study it at any depth.

Does this make me uneducated?

:D

Anyway, a better general rule is to not bump topics that have spilled off the first page of the main topic listing regardless of the time elapsed unless there is some good reason.
