A try at a power armor model (female variant). Just started work on the gun.

It's OK. The gun is a little girly-looking, and she has enough of an ass to rival J-Lo :D
But overall, pretty good

What exactly do you mean?
-
Too brightly-colored. And doesn't have that "Get the **** outta my way" feel :D
Needs ammo belts, charging rods, or at least 2 sizes larger + have darker colors to have the GTFOMW feel.
-
Hehe, I'll work on different colors when I have actually mapped the thing. This is kind of a placeholder color scheme until I figure out a way to properly texture the model. Would a bayonet help?
:D
-
A female Mega(wo)man?
IMO the color should be changed drastically... In a darker area this suit just screams "SHOOT ME!"... Make it blackish/greyish with a touch of a primary color...
-
MEGA GIRL :D
-
Not particularly threatening. But then, semi-form-fitting pastel-colored armor shaped to meet ridiculous body proportions and resemble a teeny-bopper's self-image rarely is, even if the arm-mounted Hitachi Magic Wand is pointy. Notice how all military gear is bulky, angular, and in ugly colors? Do you think that's because their fashion department is ahead of the times, or because they don't need a fashion department, they're the army, not an outlet chain?
Also, the whole point of power armor is you're basically wearing a tank. It's not fabric, it won't conform to limb movements, you need to have actual joints, unless you want her to have roughly the same mobility as one of those cheap plastic action figures where everything's a single molded piece.
-
Eh... Stryke think Science fiction. With the accent on fiction.
-
(http://www.odeauk.fsnet.co.uk/mike/bluetroop.jpg)
Thats more like power armour, but i'll be damned if i can model that.
-
Tiara: As in contrast to "fantasy". I find little redeeming value in any work of fiction that completely disconnects itself from reality just because. If Styxx cares to have some sort of technology explaining it, he can incorporate that in the work fairly easily, but at this point it looks like he just plain didn't think of it.
-
Looks good. I suggest you take off the helmet and give her some shoulder-armour. You should take the head of your Joan (the one with hair) character and place it on this model. Somehow, the helmet just doesnt' fit here. You ought to beef up her armour a bit, make it look less like a skintight suit. Shoulders, shins and gloves should do it. You should make the armour section more angular and less curvy, to contrast them to the "suit" sections.
Hope that helps. I don't like the hemet there. Try putting a head instead, I think you'll see the benefits..

BTW I find the model quite pleasing actually, people tend to think if it's not realistic then it sucks, asthetic is fun too, who cares if it'll never be a real set of armour?
Why's nobody made the Samus comparison yet? :)

Gender Wars was a Syndicate clone.

Cos she looks nowt like Samus. Samus' power armour is huge, to the point where you've got no idea she's a bird.

samus?

Good God man, find a NES and play some Metroid this instant!
Samus:

OK, venom, I'm sorry, but you're sad :D :p

Ulala called. She wants her powered armor back.

Yeah, isn't the major twist of like the first Metroid game the fact that she's female?
-
Well done Styxx...I think it looks very good! The gun doesn't look girly to me...but then I've seen tons of renders with no mapping applied yet so I'm used to seeing things in these set of colors. I likes.
I think power armor can look any way you want it to look. Its easy enough to suggest that in the future materials that are flexible like fabric and posses properties of titanium are possible. Just look at some of these new aircraft with all composite frames...they aren't thin as paper yet but they sure weigh a heck of alot less than similar craft from before.
-
well done man i like that

Venom, no doubt: you have to go play Metroid 1, 2, Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion and Metroid Prime.
Metroid Prime is the best FPS action adventure game EVER MADE, and the rest are the greatest side scrolling platformers ever made. They have no equal.
Metroid Prime has some of the best creature, level and interface design I've ever seen, and its just an absolute blast to play.
Let me put it to you this way: I consider the series so good that I have bought every single Nintendo console/system that has had a Metroid game.

allow me to have great doubts. the single fact that I have to use a pad makes the game fall into the depth of my FPS playlist.

What an astonishingly ignorant prejudice. I suppose you don't like the world's greatest ever FPS, GoldenEye, then?

yes. the titie armor looks a little silly. and the shin gaurds need something more... they look velcrowed on.
P.S. - Styxx, could you go to the Request thread and perform a little admin action please? Graci. :)

That, I will admit, is my single complaint about Metroid Prime. If I could play it with a keyboard (or Nostromo) and a mouse, I'd love it even more. Then again, after playing the game for a few minutes, you kinda forget that your'e using a pad.
It should be pointed out that Prime doesn't PLAY like a standard FPS. The emphasis is on action to be sure, but the designers realise that you're limited to that pad and they keep the game balanced accordingly. Also, given that it is a single player game, the tone and pace are different than you might expect.
As for GoldenEye and RedFaction? Meh. Bring not these paltry titles before me. They are crap and I would not spit up them were they on fire.
-
not too bad, now if you make the chest armour a single piece, and make the rest of her look like the shin pads, you'll be t3h l33t :D
-
She needs an assguard. (Sounds like an alien species... :p) *hints to SG-1*

oh, that's the second "best FPS ever" mentioned in the same thread. Astonishing, as you say. Someone please come and say that Halo is w/o a doubt the most incredible FPS ever made, please, don't let the trend die
I haven't played your world greatest (?) FPS, but I've seen it, and at least, it's among the ugliest there is :p
You've never played RTCW, have you?
anyway, back on topic: I have problems with the leg protections... they're too big I think. There's lots of designs with such big legs, but here, they're the only big parts, and it makes the armor design unbalanced, imo.
oh, you still need to fix the egg ( ;) ) I think :D

Ha ha. You're a funny guy.

Not sure if you feel the same way, Styxx, but when I look at the shinguards I get the impression that they would weigh her down a lot and make running quickly difficult. Of course, there's all the stuff about the materials being light and jazz, but that's what it seems like to me.
-
Well, if you are going for "power" armor, then making the whole body the size and design of those shin guards is not a bad idea. However, unpowered body armor, as this appears to be, should be close-fitting and lightweight; i.e. it should not interfere with movement. The current iteration seems to be the sorst of both worlds in a technical sense.
-
Venom, I have Wolfenstein and as beautiful as it is it's still not as good a game as that old N64 title, GoldenEye. GoldenEye is still the benchmark for FPS, as most anyone in the games industry would tell you. It looks a little dated, certainly, but if you actually played then you'd realise that it's the subtle touches that make it great. Unless superficial is all that matters to you.
-
Technology is fairly advanced on the story this model is based on. Most powered systems are contained on the "skinsuit" - it's made of several layers of active smart materials. For example, the inner layer sustains (and repairs when needed) the body of the person wearing it, the muscle layer enhances speed and strength, the armor layer protects and repairs the suit automatically, the camouflage layer can change it's color to blend to the environment or even turn completely reflective to repel laser weapons.
Heavier systems, such as the field manipulators, sensors, anti-gravity, navigation, etc. are contained on the "bulges" at the arms, legs and backpack (the backpack also carries five small "remotes"). Extra armor is placed over such places.
The standard main weapon, a field-generated laser, is detachable and can be replaced by several other specialty weapons, or a second weapon can be attached to the other arm if needed. The armor plates morph as needed to accomodate the weapons.
-
Don't forget it can go bullet time!!! :D

The benchmark for FPS is Doom. Or, alternately, Blood, which is really the same thing only better and with walls you can blow up.
-
i have to agree with you there, doom still scares me, and the game is how old?
-
meh, if you want scary play heretic :p
And although Goldeneye rules, Perfect Dark is god.
-
yeah, heretic scared me too, although not as much as doom for some reason...

Actually he is right. Most console shooters are compaired to Goldeneye. When Time Splitters 2 came out, the hype was that it was a Goldeneye killer...the same from some press sources over Halo, and other FPS console games. Red Faction 2 claimed to have multiplayer options that were similar to that of Goldeneye and Perfect Dark...as it stands, these are benchmarks set by that particular game that current console games much achieve to be recognized of anything these days. And with good reason, Goldeneye was one of the best in its day.
-
the key word here is "console". and that sums it all.
-
And that's yet another piece of ignorant prejudice from someone who's quite obviously never owned a console in his life. Sorry to keep on at you Venom but it's quite clear you have no idea what you're talking about.
Interestingly, when a PlayStation developer got hold of former Rare employee named Dave Doak, they splashed all over the magazines that their new game was being made by the GoldenEye team. They were that desperate to make the association.

Let see.
I started with the Atari 2600, then I owned a gameboy, an amiga CD32 ( I'm sure you don't even know this one, heh? ), and right now I have an Xbox. I spent hours on my friends NES, SNES, PSX, PS2 and Dreamcast. I've played FPS on PS2 ( Half Like and Turok2 ), plus a couple older ones I don't remember.
The whole experience utterly SUCKED ( the award going to half Life, where you can't even invert the "mouselook" ).
I know what I'm talking about, and I'm so sorry if I don't share your opinion.

I'm completely with you Venom. :)
I still say though, give Metroid Prime a shot. It doesn't play like a standard FPS and that reduces its suck factor by a huge amount. Its a First Person Platformer, more than it will ever be a Doom clone.
-
Well, I took a gamble and it didn't pay off. Live and learn :)
But I do have a question - why did you keep buying more and more consoles?
Oh, and as for Dave Doak, he was one of the lead programmers and general daddy of GoldenEye. He actually appeared in the game as a double agent inside the Russian chemical plant...
-
personally, the only reason i have a playstation is for the racing games... Ridge racer series, Wipeout trilogy, Demolition racer, etc...
granted i haven't played many first person shooters on consoles, but the only one i ever enjoyed was Dino Crisis, all the rest sucked, yes, even goldeneye...
-
Metroid Prime Rocks!!!!!

Console games = poo. No modding capability, and that basically makes them turd right away. :D
BTW, how the heck did this turn into a discussion about console games?

It's Venom's fault :nervous:

I would, but the gamecube is the only console I don't have access to.
wait, platformer? ah, no, I won't sorry, I don't like that kind of games, I suck at it.

because consoles have games that suck on PC :)
If you take the exemple of FPS, I won't change my mind, no console FPS can compare to a PC FPS. But in the otehr way around, no... mmh... for exemple no PC fightning game can compare to a console fighting game ( not that there's much PC ones these days, anyway :doubt: )
Ok, the main reason I have consoles is to play with friends.

you can mod Xbox games :p ( with a chip :D ).
Nah, really, the interest isn't there, it's, for me, to be able to seat down with 3 other friends, and play a game of Ninja chaos or DOA3 in team tag. that's a lot of fun and I don't ask anything else from them. For the rest, there's the PC.
and how? well, it began when someone compared STyxx chick to a metroid character iirc?

Agree on both counts there. Me and my friends always saw PC multiplayer as a bit of a hassle (we still live in dialup land, so multiplayer = LAN = setup time + money), so consoles were the only way to go beat up our buddies.

FFX is enjoyable, but hardly one of the best games ever. I've got it and I liked it, but it was kinda lacking on the whole 'game play' element.

yeah, that whole water football crap is just the best thing ever in a game :doubt:
I hate those "random battles" anyway.
But according to my friend, as usual, the plot rules ( got a look at some of them, and the stories are indeed cool for every FF I looked after ).
Anyway, the only one I really wanna play is, I think, the 9 ( the one with the SD characters ), I love its design.

FF9 is one of the better ones. There's gameplay, gorgeous graphics, great story--though the end boss was kinda dumb.
FF6 is probably the best of the entire lot, with 5 coming in a close second. Kefka is the only RPG villain I have ever actually hated on a personal, visceral level.

Well its pretty good in my opinion, its not a vital subgame. I prefer the character designs in FF8 and FF10 than in 9, just have a preference for more sci-fi things, though FF9 looks like good game, but i'll pass judgement when i play it, i had my doubts about FF8s plot and big people before actually playing it. The FMV in FFX is the best i,ve ever seen besides FF:TSW, really good story too. I also like how the battles are more dynamic, stuff changes.
Only gripe i have with FF games(i used to hate the random battles, but for some reason, i tdoesnt bother me anymore in FFX), is the summons, i really wish they'd let you skip the intro animation, so i don't use them much.
