Title: GTC Calypso
Post by: Raven2001 on July 22, 2003, 09:32:12 am
Ok, here's a model I built... it is intended to be a GTVA Cruiser... yeah, it is high poly (almost 2000 polys), but I built it with the SCP dudes excellent work in mind, cause I've got no doubts that they will make the game run faster and with better detail :) Keep it up boys!

The model still requires some tweaks in the UV mapping, but by these pics you can get the idea and provide feedback

[EDIT]: fixed... thanx Tiara
OHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! I'm getting pissed off!!! I no longer know how to use the code!!!! let's see if this works

It's very good, but 2000 polys is not high-poly these days ;)

Nice model Raven, but I'm not sure it fits in with other Terran warships. Of course, I'm saying that on a purely cosmetic basis, theres no reason why a new line of ships couldn't be built, but there you go.

If you ask me, you should set it up to be some sort of transport... maybe that big space between those lower engine thingies could be used to hitch up a great big cargo container, and turn the thing in to a big tug like the Nostromo?

nice but to be honest it doesn't look like a 2000 polys ship, it's triangulized, right?

I think that's possibly the most original design I've seen in a long while (and not just because i'm suffering horribly from modders block)

Although I think you may have some room to reduce the polycount a bit from 2000, even without having to resort to detriangulizing it.

Actually, it looks like a kick ass freighter. You going to release it, or better yet, let me play with it? ;7

Ok heres my crits, though I doubt you'll change anythin on the model just becuase I say so.

Overall, I like it. 2 things that really bring down the overall quality for me are:

1. The very front of the ship. Try curving those 2 plates backwards a bit, and making them look less like a rectangle. See the Hecate for a good example of what they should look like. Also, make the "ears" (the things with the yellow construction sign texures) a bit smaller. Either by making them shorter, of by making them thinner.

2.Bring the 2 back "engines" (the fin-like things) a bit closer to the ship. Looks better that way I think..

Why is that so high a poly count? It could probably be reproduced with about 500... no?

It looks disturbingly familiar, and it's not Homeworld this time.;)

does seem a bit familiar. I think the shape resembles a perseus interceptor a little bit. But that's ok, the model is awesome :)

Its an odd looking ship but its a good odd looking ship.  Some of the angles perhaps bother me a bit but that applies to my sense of aesthectic appeal and is completely subjective.

Well done...looks a bit much for 2000 polys...where'd that all come from?

Ok, sorry, I couldn“t reply earlier, but I'm on vacation, and I'm lucky to be posting now... on to critics:

Yesw, the model is triangulated, I'll try to reduce the poly count a bit, but it's gonna be tough, because the ship has lots of details that you can't see on those pics, like for example, the windows are dephened (sp?) in the hull, and that sort of stuff... But I'll give it a shot, maybe I'll only triangulate the faces that really need it, and add more details to the ship...

It may not fit with the current terran design, but the fleet improves by the time, and this ship is for Caught in the Middle, that takes point about 25 years after FS2...

Someone pointed out that the front of the ship is not of the best... I really suck at designing the fronts of capital ships, ye know...  but I'll see what I can do

IT WON'T BE A FREIGHTER!!!! :hopping:  (I just had to use that smilie!!! :D ) As a cruiser it will look good with the turrets...

The model will be only released when CIM is released... But, those dudes to wich I'm also working for can be sure that I'll try to work at this level for them...

I'm currently working on a corvette for the GTVA too, wich resembles the Deimos a bit... When I get home I'll try to show it to you... Until then!!!! :)

KT Said it all... I just don't understand the crying... cause I guess I'm working with him

Oh, here's another thing... I want to make my models to look better, but for that I need some better textures to fit the style that I'm looking for, so I'm asking someone in the community who has 2d drawing skills to gimme an hand... This is the only kind of support I request for now, and I hope to get some help, or CIM will never be released and the same will happen with the models, and I don't want that ... neither do you, I'm sure...

Sooooooooooooooooooooooo:
HELP!!!!
