Title: *ahem*
Post by: Knight Templar on July 23, 2003, 03:28:49 am
http://www.sgnonline.com/vb/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=30

First Off, I would like to ask why I have never even seen the place before accidentally stumbling over a news post on some armada news website.

Secondly, I think a friendly forum invasion is due, or at least just let them know we know they are alive. :)

Seriously, this is the best and closest bet we have with a FS RTS, check it out at least.

hmmz
now i have a reason to keep that crap POS called armada2
:)

err id think youd have to do some revamping to the Armada code or core files, i dont think cap ships in armada fire at more than one target....

Solid Snake posted some screenshots of this around here many months ago, if any of you remember. It looked very impressive, but I didn't know the project was still alive until now.

Download POF Constructor Suite from https://sourceforge.net/projects/alliance, Drew.  It can convert the POF models into COB format (Caligari Object format) for use in Truespace.

If you want to convert from COB to some other format (e.g. 3DS for use in 3ds max), 3d Exploration (http://www.fileplanet.com/dl.aspx?/3dactionplanet/hlp/hosted/reciprocity/3dexplor.zip) is a great little program to convert between formats.  Get the models into some industry standard format, and you can probably convert them into an Armada specific format using your tools.

Oh, right, I forgot to mention VPView to you, Drew.  You will need that before PCS will ba aby good to you.  Learn about VPView in Karajorma's FreeSpace FAQ (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/karajorma/freespace/intro.html).  Use it to extract the POF files from sparky_fs2.vp.

Then launch PCS and open a POF file in it.  On the Conversion menu, choose POF to COB.  It will save the model in .cob format.

Then launch 3D Exploration, open the .cob and save it in whatever format you wish.

Actually if I want to extract a pof from a .vp file I tend to use Modelview rather than VPView because it allows you to have a look at all the ships rather than having to figure out which filename they are saved under from the ships.tbl. Once you hit the pof-edit button you'll be given the option to save the pof.

Yep. BMP or some other file your 3D program understands. Irfanview's batch converter is probably the easiest free tool you can use for this although PSP and photoshop will be able to do it too.

The Format .ODF I believe is the individual ship table. Instead of one huge table each ship has it's own entry (called an ODF file) text format.

The actual MODEL is in SOD format I think GMAX, 3DS (since it's not free I don't have that)... Some Unwrappers and Milkshake support SOD format. Main problem is getting SODS exported to .cobs!!  I have never gotted an Armada2 ship into freespae except for the ones Little Ludi converted over at Freespace2Sector (bless his German Heart!).  There is a completed Homeworld FS2 mod... (I kept the Hades for a low poly long range view that actually uses a model) so I can make a scene of mass Hades Destruction without taxking my system greatly! ;)

Forgot URL but off main homeworld site it is JTS online try RELIC (UK) board... As for solid snake I chatted with him a little over at ArmadaII files.com  and SGN, Seems like an interesting project, but I'm all RTS-outted. Once I finish ArmadaII I won't be modding it, Like I retired BOTF, I played all the races and then added the dominion mod and played them all again to beat the dominion and retired my CD's... FS2 Forever! (ok maybe not , but definately for a loooooong time still!)
