Welcome to the world of the amazing, Vanishing Vasudans:
You can see them in FRED...
You can see them in Aurora...
But you can't see them in FS2.
I WANT MY VASUDANS BACK!
Seriously, all of my Vasudan fighters, both [V] and modded are invisible!
You can fly and fight in them, shield grids are intact, but all you see are the thrusters and squad logos. I've replaced all the models and textures with fresh copies (untouched by me), but it's had no effect. Anyone have any idea what's going on? I'm using Open 3.5.

1) your tables are messed up somehow (maybe)
2) your Zod textures are fuct somehow.
3) something is replacing your Zod textures
4) it's some weird ass coding problem that I know nothing of that seemingly only affects Vasudan Textures.

You tried to modifiy the LOD levels? And all that are shown are invisible LODs? That is VERY weird. If you have the CDs, try a reinstall.
-
Reinstalling always helps, except when not ... :)
-
I had the magical disappearing Medusa with the same thing...squad logos and thrusters would show (so would the shields when hit) but the vessel had clean disappeared. Couldn't replicate it like you have...

FS2 engine can always show new things every day. Perhaps the shield geometry touched the hull of the ship.
Could you fix it?

It was a stock FS2 ship...the GTB Medusa. This was actually with no mods installed at all during the second campaign mission from FS2...and it never happened again either.

I'll try a reinstall as soon as I hunt down my FS2 disks. It's even weirder, because I've screwed up my tables before, and everything after the fualty entry acts wierd - but it's literally just the Vasudans.
I STILL WANT MY VASUDANS BACK!

This is called the true Terran-Vasudan Alliance. :)

If you think the problem is faulty tables (although I'm confused as to how it could be) why not just make a new data folder and try running FS2 using that.

Does this problem only true to fighters, or capships and misc. are also invisible?

I don't get it...

I think TopAce was referring to my concern for my Vasudan comrades. Oh, and...
I GOT MY VASUDANS BACK!:D
It seems I had too many Terran ships. :( (not sure why, I'm using Open 3.5) I moved some and turned them into Vasudan aligned (they were Merc ships not GTVA so it didn't spoil their appearance) and voila! it works again.
Funny thing is though, I did it in stages, and it got worse before it got better: all of the icons vanished, going to weapons selection gave me a blank space where the loadout PCX should've been, and if I bypassed all that, my weapons were invisible and my ship handled like a Sathanas.
One last thing: crack open Sparky.vp and look in Interface. Does anyone else think that CRIM30, 32 and 43 (images from the credits) are some of the best looking ships they've ever seen?
-
Well it's well documented that the ships table can only hold som nay entries (130 in the vanilla FS2) but perhaps there is also a limit on the number of entries per species. When the 130 ship limit is broken, you see, weird stuff begins to happen so perhaps your disappearing Vasudans were another aspect of the same issue...
-
Anyone ever think of using this bug to make a campaign where you're fighting an invisble enemy? :D
-
I hadn't considered that. Could be good, but it'd mean the loss of the Vasudan fighters and the weapons I just spent ages creating (well, butchering).
Besides, there's cloaking for that. It looks a hell of a lot better than floating thruster .ani's

Now there is. But we had 5 years of FS2 where there wasn't :D I was just wondering if anyone thought of doing it that way before cause now I know the cause I remember hearing of this exact same bug years ago :)
