Title: some screenshots
Post by: KARMA on January 12, 2002, 05:01:00 am
ok, i know that they aren't still perfectly complete....textures for ti's wings are from xwaup, textures for the "arms" sucks and textures for the tf wings sucks too...and i have some problems with thrusters also....the model for thrusters seems to be too small, and the glow for ti is too near to the ship models, so i can see when it is at 0% of power a glow partially in the front of the ship, partially in the rear......

but i'm too happy becuase i finally was able to test my model in game and they works fine althought i've created them with an heavy intersecting poly strategy...so i want to post some pics  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
i don't know why they seems to works...i still have to test with a bigger model to see if you can't fly throught...but in a first test i was able to hit the ships about evrywhere.....and i'm not curious to know why they works...i'm enough satisfied for they works  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
...here are some pics

The location of the thruster glow on the ships is wrong. They should be at the sides of the globe, in between the circular thing at the back and the arms. If you used XWAUP textures you might have X-Wing Alliance. Look there.

lol, i know what you are talking about but i never considered em as the engines, for i thought they were too small...
eheheh man i feel little stupid ehehehhehe, well.. i'll check on swma...btw it would be a problem i dare, since the lights you are talking about are really, really small

You need two of them otherwise its not a TWIN ION Engine aka TIE Fighter.

i know (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)
i simply thought the engines were located in the big rear hole, with a single glow for both, i never considered the two red lights on the sides of the main body (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)...and it will be a problem as said...those lights are really, really small.....it would be impossible to set a properly thruster glow

don't use thruster flame objects for this ships, just the glows you add with PCS.

my old tables seems to don't work properly anymore so i simply substituted the models to the myrmiddon for these screenshots, but i'm waiting for a friend to send me already tested and working versions for ships.tbl and weapons.tbl.
i agree with you venom, i'll delete the thruster obj for all the ties...
i've done a little research...ties have small red glows (the glows that other were talking about) that are hidden with a kind of electromagnetic process, and are visible only on a direct angle.
i dare that freespace2 glows are too big to represent the original thruster glows...the best solution may be to realize the glows as simple textures and to use no glow...but will the fighter work without any glow?
elseway the better solution will be to use only a central glow as in the pics
i have another question btw, does ts5 materials work in fs2? i mean...reflectance, bump mapping...

you can make the glows the size you want in FS2, don't worry, you can make glows that small, just play with the radius entry.
otherwise, no, you can't set bump, reflection or anything, FS2 will only use the basic map.

try to read all a post before reply (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)....
the only xwaup texture u can find on the pics are on ti wings, since i still have to finish all the maps....
or you think i will release (whenever i will release something) a ship with maps partially done by me and partially done by other ppl for other projects? (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/rolleyes.gif)  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/rolleyes.gif)  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/rolleyes.gif)
eh it would be a nice patchwork (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

ya those are awsome, everyone is so harsh around here when it comes to critism

Those are fantastic!  I can't wait till this gets fully featured.  I want to pilot B-Wings against the empire  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Or fly a TIE Advanced (not X1) against the Rebels.  Wee!

vadar_1: Nobody is being harsh here.  IF they were being harsh they would have said "those modelz SUCK!  GO makes better onez!!!11!!".  But nobody has said that.

Everyone is lending feedback because its good to have feedback (if everyone says "Yes thats nice, then do they really care or not?") and because people here see the HUGE potential for these models.

I'm personally excited!

i hope to release something soon, as said in another post....just a melee pack for the beginning...it will take i think one or two months
actually i have to fix/complete those in the pics, i have a lod0 for td almost done, and it will not take too much to finish the other lods since i use the same parts of the other ties, except for wings.
i'm working actually on a ta, i have finished and debugged this:
(http://members.fortunecity.com/aranbanjo/ta.jpg)  ,its only 230 polys so it will be a good starting point for the first two lods, another guy working at this project has done a mesh for gunboat of about 250-300 polys that is great, some other meshes for xw that needs some major fixes to be used in game and he is working on a VSD too
well, its a long job but i've never said it will be done in two days (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
anyway there will be soon a site where to check our progress
..
oh and thx for feedback
congratulations makes me obviously happy, but critics may be also important for they may give important sugggestions (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
bye

Where's your site?

Just a suggestion, but maybe including shield meshes on all TIEs would be a good thing.  There are several times in TIE Fighter where some TIE's get shields.  Just leave the table value at 0 for the time being  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Those textures are awesome, sorry I missed that...  You see, the XWAU team is rather, er, pocessive about its work, so I just wanted to make sure before a big arguement ensued... Awesome stuff anyways  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

[not accusing] That Tie fighter kinda looks alot like the one in the sample models of lightwave [/not accusing]
Title: some screenshots
Post by: KARMA on January 13, 2002, 03:54:00 pm
no problem, i don't have lightwave (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif) (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif) (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

i use only ts5(i've never used other 3d programs since i've started modelling just for this project, so i directly started with ts5), photoshop6 and ultimate paint to convert pcx to pcx 256 colors (i don't know why photoshop6 don't have the option to save with limited number of color)

i've just finished all the maps of these fighters, so i've substituted the xwau textures and improoved some others...when i'll find time i'll upload some new sshots to the site..actually i've only a voodoo2 so this is the best resolution i can have for the screenshots, maybe i'll ask some friends with a better graphic card to take some (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

mmm this could save some time so i'll check better, but where it should be? i mean, i select "save as", then i select pcx in the new window, but in this saving window there isn't the 256 color option.

Post by: Starwing on January 14, 2002, 05:53:00 am
Probably you have to convert it to 256 color BEFORE saving.

ya know, i have all the Star wars tie fighter vs xwing sounds and a studio wave convertor to convert the frequency so its sounds perfect, between us, we could make a star wars total conversion mod!
Title: some screenshots
Post by: KARMA on January 14, 2002, 12:55:00 pm
well to create a full sw conversion is obviously our objective (dream may be a better definition (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif)).
about sounds we already have all the sw games but at this moment we are looking for non copyrighted sounds around the web for obvious reasons...if we will not find free stuff we will be forced to use xvt or xwa sounds, but this as last choice and anyway we will decide further in development.
We will maybe look even for some arrangments of musics since a member of our team is also a member of a rock band (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

btw,
this is an enormous project, we are few, each with his own real life, and all newbies in fs2 modding....
since we prefer to see the end of this project before we reach retirment age we will accept any help in any part of the job from any guy that desires to work at this conversion, from modelling to textures, from sounds to table editing, from interface art and hud to in game voices, from starwars stats recording to pof editing
we are just at a starting point actually...not all this position are required for now, but if you or others will give us an hand and think that can be of some help....well contact me  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
