Title: The Fury Returns - GTF Autolycus
Post by: Rampage on July 24, 2003, 02:22:27 pm
I have converted another ship!  This time it's not from the HW universe but instead from the old Terminal Velocity genre (Terminal Velocity, Fury3, and Hellbender).

I call it the GTF Autolycus, the Alliance's most advanced stealth fighter as of yet.  With the help of SEXPs, this baby can go into full stealth mode and cloak (Whenever Applied Into SCP) as well.  But it sacrifices it's secondary weapons banks for cloaking.  (Not true!  When I release the ship, I will release another version with secondary banks.  The one used by Attempted Suicides - Wehrmacht will not have secondaries.)

And of course, pictures.

Special thanks to:
1. Terminal Reality, who made this vessel and its awsome Terminal Velocity trilogy (Especially Hellbender) for its day!
2. Volition, who made the awsome FS series, which still lives on today!
3. Woomeister and Venom for some of this vessel's maps.
4. Mikhael for teaching me the art of modeling in LightWave, which allowed me to repair this vessel's countless geometry errors.
5. Hard Light Productions, who harbored FS2 when it was about to die and brought it back to life!  (And also for hosting Attempted Suicides!)

[Hint]Now, with the Fury out, do expect the Hellbender to come shortly. [/Hint]

It's shape is rather typical to be a Shivan fighter. Seeing the size of the cockpit, isn't it a bit large to be a stealth?

textures are really too warped and low res if you want my opinion

I think these textures are sufficent for a fighter. It is very rare you can get enough close to a fighter to see the 'dirty scaled texture' on it. Especially with a fast stealth fighter. If you have a look at the Pegasus, it is also less detailed than any larger, slower fighters and bombers.

The texture map that I used for this vessel is 512x512.  I'm one of the few people here who doesn't have a superb video card to handle hi-res textures.  If a model has hi-res textures, my computer won't have the "celerity" it has now.

Let me know when it is available, I wish to use it, but not if their aren't any secondary banks.

Aw shucks for the credit and everything, but man, take this back to Lightwave and do some more work with it. I know its a direct conversion, but it just looks wrong for Freespace. Even as a stealth, it needs a little more volume. Maybe I'm crazy.

Good luck with the Lightwave stuff.

Don't mention it.

This ship was taken directly out of Hellbender (since I don't have Fury3), and it does look like a sheet of flying scrap metal.  There's little I can do for it without tinkering too much with its geometry.  As for stealth, I think it fits in perfectly with the Pegasus, just with the Shivan looks and all...  But then again, that's just my opinion.

You could say the design was based upon the SF Chimera.

textures warped means bad uvmapping, and if you used 1 512x512 map let me say that you used the uv space very bad, I'm sure you can do better;)

Terminal Velocity? If it's a TV ship, isn't it that the little delta-wing ship that appears on Tei Tenga? If you're going to do Terminal Velocity ships, do the Hellhawk and the CAF fighter. The Ositsho ships are nice too.

The details in the design could look better with some tweeking, but I agree with Rampage the shape is suited for a stealth.  The "flying scrap metal" was the first thing I thought when I first saw the Pegasus in FS2.  That thing is paper thin.

But not visible, and this makes it rather a tactical unit than destructive. Get close ... scan ..... go away :D

This is the task of a stealth fighter.

Go go go .... shoot shoot shoot .... kill kill kill. this is the Ursa with Helioses. :)
