Some method of forcing AI wings to stick together would be handy. I was just thinking today that Chig fighters always fly in threes and won't break unless they're actually taking weapon impacts. A SEXP or a wing properties tick box might be the way to do the FRED end... what do we think, code dudes?

a menu ala "formation in homeworld" would rule.

Stuff like line abrest, line astern, box, diamond, echelon left, echelon right, and so forth would be very interesting. At present I think FreeSpace's only formation is diamond.
I'd love to be able to make the AI more capable of doing different manuvers. A line astern formation breaking into a starburst would be spectacular if the AI was given a random opportunity to do it.

i think its more of an echelon left... if you have 4 ships the line as following;
A1
A2 A3
A4
...
EDIT; Those looked right when i typed them and edited them...
EDIT2; I'll use dashes;
-----A1-----
---A2-A3---
-A4---------

Hmmmm...
Here's some formations:
Terran:
--1--
2---3
--4--
Vasudan:
2---3
--1--
--4--
Shivan:
--1--
--2--
3---4
Ancient:
--1-2--
3-----4

Species dependant formations? Whatever for!
:confused:

they reak rank to engage as soon as you are in range... well before you can actually see them... :-\
