Title: Reccomend me a mod/mission/campaign!
Post by: Primar on July 25, 2003, 07:56:33 am
Exactly what it says on the tin. :)

And hello everybody. Patriarch knows who I am, but apart from him I'm new to the forum. I'd mumble something about subspace jump drives, but I'm not sure that would help. Anyway...

Hello, welcome to the HLPBB etc etc.

Suffice to say there are several big campaign threads floating around, use the search function to find them. My personal reccomendations include Derelict (buggy but you must play it, it's as close as we have to an expansion), Aeos Affair (hard) and Warzone. There are several projects with recent releases including Lightning Marshal and the Inferno demo, go get them right now.

Everyone always forgets TBP :D

If you like Babylon 5 (Even if you don't actually) I suggest trying the Babylon 5 mod from over at VolitionWatch.

Derelict, Aeos Affair, and Warzone are good for making more of the Freespace universe from abot the time you leave it in FS2.  TBP is a total conversion, so I won't list it here, and I haven't played it so I can't recommend it.  Also out recently are Lightning Marshall, as DG said, Casualties of War (short, extremely hard and has some balance issues that I won't go into here) which makes use of SCP (Source Code Project) executables, and Inferno.  Inferno is a must, and getting the latest SCP release is also a must.

I'll back up Derelict and COW, along with the newly released Inferno (just check down in the Hosted section of the forums).

SCP updates are generally required for most recent campaigns, though older ones like Derelict don't require the update.

BTW, welcome to HLP.

I personally don't suggest you derelict, I still haven't completed it, but I can say it is very unbalanced in difficulty. You have to take down at least 50 fighters with 3 wingmen etc. etc. But the story is good.

Before you install anything copy your data folder. Then when you've played the campaign you can swap the original and copy around again and Multiplayer will work fine.

Ok, thanks for all the advice. I've already downloaded Inferno, but I haven't got around to installing/playing it yet. :(

BEAMS are ready to fire  FIRE!!!!!

Welcome to HLP. There are exits to the left and rear. Do not attempt to use them. Under your seat you will find empty beer cans, cookie crumbs, dog eared dungeon Porn mags left by Shrike... oh, and a Flamethrower. Unfortunately, we're out of napalm, so you'll have to bludgeon people to death with them.

In the event of serious conflict, there are plasma rifles in the forward locker, though these can only be opened by an Admin, [V], God, or Hyperintelligent shade of the colour Blue. If, for whatever reason, you find yourself crawling around in the ductwork, there's a better than average chance you'll encounter a Shivan. They're easy to spot with the five legs and all. If you're lucky, it's just Carl, who responds well to food rewards. If not, then at least you die quickly. Be aware that the entrance to the main control room is guarded by subspatial claymore mines.

If you type "you", and it comes out "we", or you see russian letters, blame the admins. April Fools comes only once a year, but they make it last a long time.

Have a nice day.

*cues Shivan assault*

Otherwise not I am the only one who has Karajorma's tutorial as a target.

I don't understand... why is K's FAQ a 'target'? It's probably the single most useful piece of reference for n00bs and regulars alike. There is a reason why most n00bie questions get the answer 'check kara's FAQ' - because that's what it was designed for.

Okay. Time to weigh in on this one cause I've pretty much kept silent about it until now.

TopAce I want to know if you've got some kind of problem with me? Cause if you do I seriously want to know what.

I've answered your questions several times on this forum. When you had a problem with the turrets on one of your models I was the one who downloaded it and attempted to fix (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,14538.0.html) it.
The turreting tutorial was written because I noticed that you (and a few other newbie modders) were having problems with making turrets.
I've offered to help you with voice acting for your campaign and to cap it all the FAQ which you seem to take such exception to also contains a link to your own FREDding guide.

Despite all that you've taken every opportunity these last couple of weeks to snipe at me about the FAQ.

Frankly I'm mystified as to why.
