Title: Anyone here play Homeworld?
Post by: Taristin on July 30, 2003, 03:57:46 pm
Is there a way to extract ships from that game, like in FS?
I want this one bad!

that ship doesn't exist, it's concept art for HW2 :P

EDIT: And yes, there is a way. You have to get a specific proggram, forgot it, tho :( 3D Viewer is what I used to use, but it costs a TON now. Use Lithunwrap to extract.
You will also need BIGviewer to look into the main homeworld files.

Extract the ships with a program called BigViewer.. convert em with 3D Exploration....
you can probably find BigViewer at Relicnews (http://www.relicnews.com).
3D exploration you'll have to "look for"

I tried Homeworld and homeworld2 (but people just called it cataclysm not HW2 which to me was bizzare cause it wasn't an expansion pack, it was a totally seperate game?) anyway, I don't like too many RTS games and was really put off by lack of control over the fleet. It was not quick enough for me and changing your view across the map was a chore in combat. I recently tried the Hegemonia Demo and graphicly looks outstanding, but play wise was worse than HW IMHO. I'll stick to flight sims!

NOw as for extracting ships from HW I can't from the main game, but From any mod created for HW I can do so... I don't like evry ship made, but there are quite a few I do like (either because individually it is cool, or it will fit a theme I'm going for).

Am I really the only person to notice that the ship isn't from homeworld but is instead from Homeplanet (http://homeplanet.revoltgames.com/)?

 Oops, I'm sorry... that's totally my fault. I haven't played any of these, and they all start to sound similar after a while.:reallyebmarassed:

So, then, does it exist?

I was lurking in their forum, and one person seems to think that they stole ships from FS1/2 and HW/C...

It was made by different developers IIRC. Homeworld 2 is out later next month.

Raa Tor'h : The ships in Homeplanet do look somewhat like some FS2 ones but not enough to be stolen so I don't know what the guy could have been complaining at.
If you haven't played homeworld then I can't blame you for getting confused but I am somewhat more confused as to why people ready to burn you for not having played Homeworld failed to notice :D

That's because Relic is comeing out with the REAL Homeworld 2.

relic's official stance on HW: C is only that it "happened"

So, no, Cata is NOT homeworld 2.

Cataclysm started out as an expansion add on for Homeworld which was being co-developed during the final stages of Homeworlds development.

The initial plot line was supposed to be about some capture POW's from the Homeworld War and getting them back, with a few other plot twists thrown in.  But as the project progressed all of the additional material just got so big that it stemmed away and became an independant game (a stand alone expansion, not a direct sequil).

Cataclysm may have been developed by an alternate company (Barking Dog, now Rockstar Vancuver (spelling?)) but the storyline was co-developed and written with Relic, namely Marcus Skyler (whom eventually joined Barking Dog from Relic anyway).  The storyline is official and has been noted as happening (so anyone who tells you otherwise is just BSing).  But having said that, the focus of HW2 is the continuation of the Homeworld storyline and not the side storyline that was presented in Cataclysm so hence Cataclysm won't be focused on (but might get a few passing mentions, we'll have to see).
