I have idea how hard this would be to implement, and it may already have been discussed.  racial hud.

We can make a hud for each race that we have.

And with all of the talk going on about adding races.....why not a Race Table?  In it we have the basics.

hud
color (in fred)
default iff

things as such.

**** that, I want to see different HUDs for each ship. Otherwise the damn things are identical on the inside.

Modular cockpits?  Now, I can understand the difference between a Uly and a Herc but most ships look like they have the same initial seating and control systems with a different glass design.

what about the 50 or so fighters I have made/planed so far? or the hundres of fighters other MODs are doing? dont get fixated on FS2 thanks....

It's a good point. I suppose you could compromise and only show a cockpit setup if one is available, else use the 'generic' one?
But certainly, it would be great to see different HUDS for different races, that makes sense to me :)

ya, seriously. what's the point of flying a new ship if the only difference is performance.
I'd REALLY REALLY love to see different HUDs for ships. ESPECIALLY if they're 3D :D

This happens too much... someone comes up with a cool and possible idea, then someone says "Wouldn't it be cool, though to have it like this, that will take unbelieveable amounts of time and effort?" Then everyone gets fixated on the impossible idea and the cool idea never gets implemented.

Per-Species HUDs. Good idea. Let's see how we can implement it. Ditto for the Race.tbl. Ignore the 3D cockpit fantasies.

actually i was thinking that setting the hud to be racial woudl be a building block for the 3d cockpits.  I think that both are cool and can be realized, i just think that the racial hud is more readily accessible.  That doesn't mean that we should discount the 3d cockpit, just maybe realize that it is the end result of where we want to go, and we are just beginning the walk.

I know we already have a race table.  This one may also help add the ability to add our own species.  it may also allow us to add more hud's within the race, as in 1 hud per ship if it is so desired.

from there maybe we can add a virtual cockpit for each different fighter, who knows........but i think that would be best if run from the Ship table.  an entry on the table telling it what cockpit to use.  That sort of thing.  Long term stuff to be thinking about anyway.

now that was bad!

but anyway id like a hud scripting system. you could detail how each gauge works as well as placement of gauges. full understanding of how the hud system works. the ships tbl would reference an entry in the hud table.

i want a low tech hud for pirate vessels. it would have a moving reticle system a simple targeting system, and crap like that.

another idea, a third person view 3d hud. it would give you all the targeting data you would get in the fps hud, but 3d like. with a 3d lead indicator.
