what's 'FS2_open'?

(if it's legal to download freespace, why don't someone put up the 3 cds for download by ftp or on the web, i mean using a filesharing utility is not practical for 3cds as it will take hazar time to download

Some files are ready for download from the FS2 cds (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,16047.0.html) and check this forum for more info on FSOpen and the SCP (http://dynamic4.gamespy.com/~freespace/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=50).
