Title: cutscenes?
Post by: Nico on June 22, 2001, 04:12:00 pm
ok, how can I make them? I can make mpeg files, but I need to know the format (640*480 or anything else?), the color depth, and, mainly, how to convert it to MVE...

Can't help with the rest, but I think MVE movies need to be converted by Interplay / volition.  something to do with the MVE encoder allowing certain other copyrighted file types to be decoded or something.

Yeah, but apparently they'll convert it for you if you want. If you're interested, I heard Kazan had done this, so either check with him or volition, or even better both  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

From what I gather from Kazan, the frame rate must be at 30 fps unless something has changed.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

Yea i am getting one made for Hidden Terror the frames must be single images each in TGA format 640 * something i know it is not 480 i cant remember right now but if i do i will tell you, there must be a 30 frames per second and the TGA must be compressed. If you want audio it must be in WAV or VOC only. Have fun!

Yep. Adam Pletcher (Lead design of FS2) put up an FTP to the Volition servers where people can upload their AVIs, and he said he would encode them into MVE for us. The link is somewhere on the VBB...

I think it's 640*400... that seems to be the correct fit.

They said they had, but Interplay hasn't authorised it yet.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/redface.gif)

Cutscenes!
Check the Faslane in the movie section of this site ("http://battletech.do.sapo.pt/btsw/main.htm") for an example of what one of the modellers on the team did...
then check this ("http://www.dropshipcommand.com/dcforum/DCForumID12/71.html##") thread for an example of what he did without poly limits.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/eek.gif)

PS. I get a 403 (Forbidden) when trying to download the Faslane movie...  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/redface.gif)

Here's another thread he posted it in:Thread ("http://www.dropshipcommand.com/dcforum/DCForumID3/300.html##") EDIT: This thread has another link to movie.
and a 'mech design made by him: Peacekeeper ("http://www.tro42.com/TRO/l3/peacemaker1.html")
The top movie uses his ships he made for the BT Homeworld mod, the Faslane and York.
Any info on cutscenes?    (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/nervous.gif)
