I'm knocking around the idea of putting a few FS ships into Starcraft, and possibly the ganymede to launch them from, but I need to know how to change in game pics. I've found to tools to change stats and stuff, but not the pics. So if anyone can tell me how, I'd be most appreciative.

gah, Starcraft is a ***** to mod...
-
I think you need to have StarDraft to edit the unit pics... not sure though.
Try looking at Starcraft.org for info...

Yes actually. Are those FS ships actually in the game, or have you messed around with screenshots?
I'll try stardraft too. Thanx.

"Image hosted by tripod"... wtf?
Well, if it is what I think it is, its a total fake.
It is absolutely IMPOSSIBLE to change unit icons, StarCraft can not be modded in any way except through the level editor, which can change unit stats and all, but NOT the icons.
I think I've seen the image before(if it is what I think it is), and you can tell by anti-aliasing and some other thing that it is fake.

Funny, i've played several campaigns, user made, where they have had new units.
Someone made or is continuing to work on a robotech campaign that replaces nearly every unit.

And don't forget that awesome Gundam mod! There's something nuts about sending swarms of Zaku to pound some sense into your opponent! (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

yea it was a promotional HOAX i did back in early 2000 late 99 to sell the idea of a freespace RTS game, I STILL HAVE NOT GIVEN UP ON IT yET!!
I tell u what tho, ive been shopping the RTS world for gaming engines to put real freespace ship models in them and i tell u that STAR TREK ARMADA IS THE BEST
why
The ships, weapons, and other stuff model like TBLS
the sound effects and music scores are interchangable
the freespace two menu is interchangable with the STA menu
You can open up the LOD1 models and convert them to POF then to 3ds then to SOD, then u have all the STA models u want
Anyone wanna help!!!

That image may be a fake, but its not impossible to mod it...
Thos MPQ files are the SC version of VP files...
The only difference is, I think you have to change the files within the MPQ file for it to change.

That is exactly right. Some people created StarDraft, which essentially reads the MPQ files, lets you change unit pics, stats, weapons, fire rates, just about anything, and then rebuilds them into a new MPQ. Pass along that MPQ with any missions you've made and there you go. They even have it to where you can modify the backgrounds, menus, and such.
A place for excellent examples is www.campaigncreations.com ("http://www.campaigncreations.com")

It's still being worked on.
I'm part of it (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

That's good to know (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)
I'm looking forward to that one. What's the URL for it again? Recent virus got rid of all my favorites.... (stupid virus)

Ok, but last I heard u couldn't mod it, but that was a while ago...
and why are you calling it StarDraft?

StarDraft is a mod tool for StarCraft...

Really think he didn't know that? (I hope he did! That was REDICULISLY ovbious!)
-
(http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/lol.gif)
And why not mod a worthwhile game instead, exactly? One where, say, missiles don't invariably hit their target, for the exact same damage each time? Or where the terrain actually has an effect on something! Or where a pincers movement using inferior forces can actually win?
SEE what happens when you get me started on strats?

yeah, why not making mods for a game sold to twenty persons, has bad gfx and a plain gameplay, rather than Stacraft?
-
Watch it. E2150 has at LEAST 100. Bad effects? Ah well, I forgive you, you're just a SCer who has never even gotten past the demo (which I believe is based off the E2150 tutorial and thus means nothing). Bad gameplay? Well, no worse than SC's. You just have to know what you're doing. Keep it to the Marines, so I don't have to mock your ignorance in too many places at once. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)
-
On second thought, I won't forgive the effects thing. You know those SC nukes? the pansy little bubble rockets that make a stringy-assed little *boom* that kills everything in, say, 10 inches? Well, E2150 has a little thing known as the Ballistic Missile... which you CAN see from any angle you like, as the multiple shockwaves level anything anywhere near it's area on the planet...
Initial blast from a nuke, even before the nice little mushroom cloud pops up...
Need I mention the even cooler-looking meteor shower?

hey, easy, E2150 is in 3D. I can make the exact smae effect in 3ds max in 10 minutes (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif)
Anyway, E2150 was a big failure, and SC was a hit. Modding a hit will bring you more audience than modding a game that almost everybody avoided.
oh btw, edit: gfx is for graphics, not just effects (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
effects always looks cool, other stuff, it's another story. And don't tell me E2150 looks good. It doesn't, and whatever you can say is useless, coz you love that game and you would deny the fact if you don't want to see the reality (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
Anyway, don't get me wrong: I never said E2150 was bad. I just can't stand people saying "that is better than that", when it's just a matter of tastes.

nah, too many pages in that thread, and it's OT (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
anyway, i updated my reply above and don't need to say anything more (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

But it's so much more interesting that way. And, as I pointed out there, E2150 was the first to use full 3D in a RTS. StarCraft was a hit largely because it was
1. from a very established company
2. almost just like the other games that established company made. I never could understand why, but the same formula also works for the most popular so-called RTS ever- Red Alert.
E2150 had little advetising cash and no cutscene-making staff to wow people. StarCraft hardly even needs the playable part, it's practically a movie in its own right. E2150 could not market itself on its terrible plot or any bells and whistles contained inside- even when TMP was released with cutscenes, they sucked and actually detracted from gameplay. E2150's selling point, aside from the very cool environment simulator and graphics engine, was that at the time it was simply the most accurate war simulation ever. Those Germans really stuck to what they knew (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif) . Now there are all sorts of 3D RTSes, and bajillions claiming to be ultraaccurate, but so far few have come up to the level of E2150. At this moment gamers are developing a .wd hack, in order to bring the game up to its modern counterparts. We have to see by how much it trounces them, but I can guarantee I'll be gloating for weeks when it does.
Yes, this was a long, stupid, probably uninteresting post, but it was a quasi-obsessive thing for all the hardcores a few years ago (before some of them destroyed the entire community for kicks- ******* ), and this brought it all back.

******* is censored? It's hardly even a word!

E2150 is a decent game, but Starcraft keeps bringing me back for more... (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Starcraft Armada offers the best gaming engine possible for ANY freespace RTS games, if someone would just help me, it'd take 1 month

Oh yeah, but if you want some real fun... check out the E2150 English board these days. Never seen warring factions of trolls before, but there's absolutely nobody else there but spammers of every sort, thanks to a particular ******* I'd like very much to track down...
