Ok...so I have this GeForce 2 GTS from ASUS (V7700 Deluxe). It desperately needs a new fan for it...anyone have any knowledge about replacing vidcard fans?
-
You could try this (http://www.nexfan.com/evorbvgacaco.html), or this (http://www.nexfan.com/evchcoco.html), or this (http://www.nexfan.com/evcovgacokit.html)
I really recommend NexFan (http://www.nexfan.com). Great service, fast, and pretty decent prices.

Should I be aware of any specific voltages for a card of this era or are they all pretty much the same?
-
Hey Ice, just how long you're going to struggle with GF2? Wasn't you supposed to have a new computer already? :)
-
ya you can probly get a card that is at least marginaly better for the same price as a good fan
-
You need one of these...

I have a lovely Radeon 9700 that replaced that GF2. But no computer or part gets thrown out here. Its now in my brothers machine and better than tha TNT that was in there :)

Bleah. I had a Radeon 9700 in my new rig for about a week. Returned it. I'd get occasional scrambled text screens on boot, sometimes the 3D acceleration features would just disappear, it required a registry hack to set the refresh rate on a non-PnP monitor, and its fog implementation wasn't compatible with Thief 2.
Got a GF4 ti4200 now. Not quite as fast, but $85 cheaper and rock-stable.

Hey at least your machine booted, ZB. the 9700 I had rendered all machines but one unbootable. It was crap. I replaced it with a GF2MX (it wasn't a game box, just a work machine) and I'm far happier.
Ice: the voltages are all the same, I believe.

Lol... I used to have an old TNT card in my first computer... 8MB... it was a nice little card, tho... played Deus Ex through the first time with it. Then I got my GeForce2 Pro, and found out you could actually see JC's eyes behind his glasses... :p

Currently going on 0 problems whatsoever with my 9700 Pro. An extremely capable card. Musta been a lemon...with exception of the Thief 2 problem (which I think was fixed in recent Catalyst driver releases - along with many other legacy software issues).

9700 = loud (per my tastes)
9800 = variable... mmm... variable gooood....

Black Ace, ever heard GeForce FX 5800 in action? :shaking:

Also known as the dustbuster for such reasons.
