Title: Don't fire yet, damn you!
Post by: Sesquipedalian on January 19, 2002, 11:41:00 pm
For some reason FS2 does not seem to care what the $FireWait field in my weapons table says for the beam I have been making.  I have no problem setting the beam's life to whatever I want in $BeamInfo: +Life, but I cannot seem to convince FS2 to use the specified firing delay.

Why won't Freespace2 flippin' listen to me?   (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/frown.gif)  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/mad.gif)

How do you make the beam fire in FRED? Do you use fire_beam events or just free it with a beam_free or beam_free_all event?

Can you post the beam entry here? Use [ code ] tags to preserve the format.

Or send the table file to [email protected] and I'll look at it.

Does the beam not fire at all after the first shot? or does it fire too fast? or does it just not change? make sure to reload your mission in fred2 and reload freespace2 (exit entirly out of the program then back in), it only reads the tables on startup.

but otherwise post your code and we'll check it out

Hmm, $Fire Wait: 30.0 (as an example) doesn't work properly?  Odd.  Post the entry here.

And make sure there's a space.... it's two words, and you never know, that might be enough to screw it up.

Its sounded to me like he was meaning he just put beam free and it fired, not waiting the amout in the .tbl (well, if Im wrong then - stop lauhging at me!) Doesn't beams fire straight away, charge, fire, charge and so forth? not charge, fire, charge ,fire?

if so - all he needs to use a firebeam...

???

all right you had your fun laughing at me... stop it, come on... stop...

Edit: taking the table entry off the Net now that the thing is fixed.  Don't want to spoil any surprises!  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Incidentally, in weapons_expl.tbl, what does $LOD signify?

Well, that was tedious, but it worked.  I don't know what was wrong with the original entry.  $Fire Wait was two words in the original.  Just a weird error I guess.  I had the same in a ship.tbl entry once.
