Title: Microsoft On-Screen Keyboard
Post by: Sandwich on August 10, 2003, 01:18:27 am
My wireless keyboard batteries just ran out, so I'm using the on-screen keyboard to post this (actually, I was until I realized that I had a perfectly good server with a wired keyboard sitting next to my main computer... :p).

Anyway, initially I loaded up the on-screen keyboard (start > progs > accessories > accessability in Win2k), and was surprised to see the 3d look of the buttons of years past replaced with a flatter, more functional version. And since I could have sworn that I had seen the 3d version pre-SP3, I was wondeirng if anyone with Win2k and SP1 or 2 could tell me what on-screen keyboard they have - 3d or flat?

Just curious...

This is what I get:

It looks like crap.

(Oh and I love the hint that pops up when you start this thing saying it's for "mobility-impaired" users. I'm using a desktop PC, does that mean I'm "mobility-impaired" too?)

Yeah, that's the 2D one, same as in my Windows 2000 (sans annoying Fisher-Price border). IIRC the 3D one I remember looked like every key on the keyboard was a dialog box button from the Windows 3.1 era... :shudder:

I normally prefer the Silver one myself but this one suits my current wallpaper and the 'Windows Classic' theme looks like ****. Plus I can't be bothered hunting out new skins because the vast majority of them look like **** too.

We now have proof that MS isn't as hypocritical as they seem! At least they use MS Paint to make their GUIs! ;)
