Title: PC cases
Post by: Kamikaze on August 10, 2003, 02:25:30 am
First I'm bragging, I got myself one of these:

Chieftec Matrix full tower :D (the pic's a mid tower and it's red, mine's silver and full) A possible total 7 case fans, 3 front (80 x 80 x 25 mm), 3 back (80 x 80 x 90) and 1 side.

Anyway, the main point: I'm curious, what kinda cases do you all have? Post a pic too!

Dig it.

7.5"x7"x11.5. Whole thing is solid metal, acts as a heatsink in conjunction with a multifan heat-pipe system to dissipate the temperatures it builds up... and they do build up, since the thing ships with a setup for basically the fastest tech you can get nowadays (ignore the Athlon thing, this is just a similar one I found a picture of) and packs it together practically solid.

Basically, get a flatscreen and it's a laptop. One you can render in realtime in...:D

My case is like FreeTerran's only black instead of blue. Also no side fan.

Hmm, FT's a newer model. :blah:

Check the link in my sig, you can see mine.

Be careful, I might go on a very anti-fancy-case rant.

[color=66ff00]The only problem I see with a full tower Chieftec Dragon is the weight of the flippin' thing, my mid tower is a hefty bugger. You'd probably need a forklift or champion weightlifter to haul a full tower around.

They're damn well designed though. I wasn't too impressed by the antec design, it didn't really do anything for me, asthetically speaking. I guess I'm tired of black/grey/beige coloured boxes on the whole.

Mine is more or less an open frame of some crappy no-name company... I have yet to find another like it, so I doubt searching for a pic will help.

more pics (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=506067&Sku=S450-4010&Tab=1)

Top bay is a DVD-ROM (http://www.tcwo.com/cgi-bin/webc.cgi/st_prod.html?p_prodid=1631&sid=44oBmP0m90PJ9eP), second from top is a very nice CD-RW (http://www.tcwo.com/cgi-bin/webc.cgi/st_prod.html?p_prodid=2762&sid=44oBmP0m90PJ9eP) (I think 52x24x52), third from top empty, bottom has Coolermaster Alum HDD Cooler (http://www.tcwo.com/cgi-bin/webc.cgi/st_prod.html?p_prodid=1839&sid=44oBmP0m90PJ9eP). With a second HDD under (or over?) the Floppy bay. I'm thinking of putting some case fans and a window on it too. :D

I have a Foxconn mid-tower and an ancient Gateway desktop. Wish I'd gone for the Antec case though....

This here is what I have:

http://www.aopen.com/products/housing/hq08.htm

AOpen HQ08 Full Tower (although I think I would have preferred the HX08 (http://www.aopen.com/products/housing/hx08.htm) as that has a civilised front panel which would have allowed me to push it further under the desk)

Bought because I wanted a case with reasonable internal airflow and cooling capacity without spending outrageous amounts of money on crap like Lian-Li.

Umm, mine's a sort of tall, thin box. You get bits of computer, and put them inside. It holds them together and keeps the dust off. What else is it for? :blah: I'd rather spend the money on bits that actually do something, or better still on CDs/ booze/ clothes/ anything else I want. Never seen the point in expensive/complicated/flashy cases....

Yeeeeeessss......

My case is shiny, and I paid 25 quid for it :p . And if I ever wanted to spend time staring at funny-coloured PCBs, then I'd start getting rather worried.

Sorry. It's late, I had a crap day at work, it's too hot, and I'm a cynical bugger...

Really, the only advantages you can get from more expensive cases are:
1. Larger cases allow more airflow.
2. Aluminum cases help get rid of heat.
3. More expensive cases tend to have space for more fans.

Don't worry Pyro, I totally agree with you. What else is a cse for if not to contain all the parts? What's the point in it looking fancy?

LONG LIVE BEIGE BOXES!

I somewhat agree with the both of you but...IT LOOKS COOL!

Case fans can be a necessity, so you might as well make it look good :D

So it looks cool. So what?

As long as things do what I ask of them, I don't give a toss what they look like.

Not in the least. And I've had this argument a dozen times before.

The great thing about el-cheapo beige boxes is you can do what the hell you like with them. For instance, I spraypainted my sister's silver with car body paint. Even the CD tray.
And if you have issues with cooling and you have a cheap box, you could hack off a side and stick an industrial fan on it. Get it junk, and it's about as expensive as one teeny ball-bearing whirry fan-thingummy you'd use normally. Now, you couldn't do that with a fancy expensive box - you'd be too worried about scratching the paint.
