Title: Ani help
Post by: Rictor on August 12, 2003, 01:22:01 pm
Heres the thing

I make a 6 frame ani file, meant to replace the existing ani for a mainhall replacement I've been messing around with. I do it with AniBuilder. The ani is the same size (width x height) as the original. Its also using the 256 colour palette. So, everything should be working. However, when I enter the mainhall, and mouseover the image, I get maybe the first frame of the ani file playing, and then FS2 crashes out without any errors etc.

In AniBuilder, I used the option "This ani is for the mainhall" which makes every frame a keyframe. Now, seemingly, I have done everything right. However, it still crashes every time...

The only thing that I could think of, is that the orginal has 12 frames, while mine has only 6. But, knowing that my ani file replaces the older one, this shouldnt make a difference.

So, anyone know whats wrong??

Is this with the FS_Open or the original exe?

Cheers

make sure you're using the exact same image width and height of the original you're replacing; FS2 uses a alpha image that determines where buttons are any if the dimensions are out of proportion they can cause a crash. Also, files with a "2_" in front of it are the high res version, so your ani's should be named 2_.ani for 1024x768 version, for the mainhall. You'll also have to edit the mainhall.tbl if you are changing any of the button coordinates.

On closer inspection, the animation seems to play all the way through once, and then crashes

I'm thinking maybe it has something to do with the looping or something.

Hmm, I set AniBuilder to stop the creation process whenever it encounters a frame with an incorrect palette. Well, it stop at the first frame and says that its a bad palette.

Now, in Photoshop, I've converted to Indexed Colours, which I would assume is 256. I've tried many different options for the Indexed Colours, and AniBuilder rejects them all

any ideas? What do you guys set the palette to in Photoshop??

Theres 3 options under the Advanced Settings

-What to do when the pallete doesn't match (stop, ignore, adjust to 1st frame)

-What the ani will be used for (briefeing, ship animation, mainhall)

-Frames per second

______

I think the first one concerns me most. I have set it to "adjust to palette of first frame" and that way I get a non-working ani (causes a crash). When I set it to "Stop when you encounter a frame with a bad palette" I get an error saying the first frame has a bad palette and it goes no further. I think that the 3rd option (ignore palette) would just cause the same crash again

I've checked in IrfanView and in Photoshop, they both say I'm using 8-bit colour scheme, 256 colours. Thats as it should be AFAIK, so I'm trying to figure out what else it could be

tell it to "adjust to 1st"  and "mainhall"

Hmm. Well, I get the same crash, but this time I got an error: an invalid page fault in DHelp.exe

The strange thing is, I've had that error before, also in FS2. But I've heard others are getting it for some unrelated matters, and AFAIL its not related to FS2 in any way....

Hmmm...
We ought to have a "deep in thought" smily
