OK, I took my blue Chig fighter and made red versions of its maps. The model won't load in FS2_Open, though it works fine in FS2. All the maps, including glows, check out at 256 colours etc. apart from the different coloured maps, the models are identical. I've tried the latest release from the SCP site, and Bobb's shiny build.

how many glow points/engine glows does it have?
http://fs2source.warpcore.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=58
more than 7 glows of any type in one bank of any type and it crashes FSO for some reason, whether they are engine glows or glowpoints.
cos that's the sort of thing that i had happen to me when testing a fighter with 8 engine glows in one bank. i had to rebuild the pof data to figure it out. :sigh:

The blue one works perfectly. The red one crashes. The only difference is the colour of the maps and the model file names.
-
ah, misunderstood that bit :) oops
so their tbls are identical also? (apart from the name & pof file of course)
other than that there isn't a lot that could go wrong apart from mixed up names or similar.

You could try using FS2_open's texture replacement system. That will tell you if there is a problem with a specific texture.
Just take the blue ship and replace all the blue textures with your red ones. If there is a bad texture this should turn it up.

Is there anything else that can go wrong with a texture? 256-colour PCX files, is there anything else I should know about?
-
I had the same problem with a Gilgamesh model. I tried to make a Borderworlds version. I took the same model and applied new textures and Freespace and FRED crashed when I selected it. I finally found out that FS didn't like my texture names or the amount of characters(the texture name was quite long) for some odd reason. Try some different and shorter texture names. Maybe that'll help.

Yes, that did the trick. Well done Lynx, have a jelly baby :)
-
Let me guess. FS2 doesn't like names longer than 32 characters?
-
Think the longest one I had was 20 characters, including the -glow
