Title: MEGA clipping
Post by: LAW ENFORCER on January 20, 2002, 03:39:00 pm
I mean SUPER clipping - I don't know wheather its just my TNT2 ULTRA or mt models but I get MEGA clipping! I put things close the the hull(or the hull faces anyway) but it isn't actually in the hull... but it clipps like a big hole or something....

??????? whats going on? - If I have to have big gaps in the model I'll just keep the clipping!

you have this prob with a triangulated model?
you mean with "clipping prob" a face(s) that disappear seen from a certain angle view and reappears if seen from other angles or you mean simply an hole?

you see other part of model through ship, normal problem (i think)

I use MS3D! YAY! it can ONLY do triangles...

Try inverting the normals.

Check, if you can, the direction of the normals in something like Lightwave first. Sometimes only a few are inverted. Sometimes, also, you might have a triangle that actually has four points (because two of the points are collocated) and thus has a screwy normal.

I love this answer. It feels like something that comes out of an engineer during a Star Trek crisis.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif) As Voltaire put it:

My favorite is that Simpsons where they had a parody of Star Trek: {scottish burr}"I'm sorry, Cap'n - I cannae reach th' control panel!"{/scottish burr} (Scotty had a huge stomach - and I mean huge.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif))

America, stand assured that Israel truly understands what you are going through.

Know how to use Rhino3D? Want to put your ships into Freespace 2? You've come to the right place ("http://www.geocities.com/sandvich/fs2/rhino_fs2/")!

If I invert the normals i carn't see the ship... I don't have lightwave... It looks fine in MS3D, 3Dexploration, TS2, Modelview and FS2 apart fromt he clipping...

are u sure u aint got any Curved surfaces on that model. i recall when i was first learning Truespace i made some Polys bend, meaning when you looked at them from a certain direction there would be "holes" in the model.

I know you say MS3D can only do Traingles. Heck essentially everything is Traingulated when you bring it into Truespace or save it in 3ds to import into 3d explorer, and then save as COB. and finaly Do the COBTOPOF Conversion.

jsut my 2 Eurocents.
