Title: File storing
Post by: TopAce on August 18, 2003, 03:30:25 pm
Just a quick question: Where the hell can I host my files without much complications? I tried swooh.com, but It needs some kind of Linux contact, and some special files to download. I downloaded the file that was told to me to do install, but my windows cannot read it. My hungarian server is a bit unstable, goes down often.

Can you suggest me an easy-to-use file storing place within these needs:

- Easy to use, immediatly working, not so problemful, simple-interfaced.
- At least 30 megs of store place.
- English(or if things are critical, even italian)
- 100% Free :)

Thanks everyone :D

PS: I left my greenish style just to do not make this thread resisting. :)

I tried it, but I don't want to make a homepage for me, only file storing.

we've got over 120 users of swooh and we've never had any problems with anyone uploading or downloading files that know what they're doing.

you're obviously not doing something right.  tell me when it gives that error.  what FTP client are you using? (you DO need an FTP client)

Couldn't you just make a blank page with all of your files stored on it?

In theory, yes, but what would the man say who finds that blank page? :D

How do I get an FTP Client? I downloaded the Cute FTP you have suggested me a few days ago via PM, but my windows cannot open it.
The filename was:
cuteftpmacOSX.sit

Because it's a mac os X file, note the name and extension. Get something from here: http://www.smartftp.com/download/

Firstly, you NEVER need an FTP client. IE will do just fine.

Secondly, your customer service department is top-class.

Thirdly, TopAce: That's a Mac version of it.

Everything is working fine now, but despite I disagree with that users need to use special softwares to upload their files. The hungarian nexus.hu has a button for that.

Possibly you are talking about a web-based FTP manager? There's nothing unusual about using an FTP client to manage your stuff. You really have no grounds to be complaining here.

1)  he never said he was using IE and
2)  apparently it won't do just fine, or he wouldn't be asking:

"I tried swooh.com, but It needs some kind of Linux contact, and some special files to download.

... understand?  kthx.[/color]

why thank you. i try.

You can open .sit files (I think they are the mac version of a .zip ) you just need the right files.:D

Of course what comes out of it might not work anyway.:p

it won't work on a windows machine. it's a totally different build.  it's like trying to run a gasoline car by pouring diesel into the gas tank.  on the right kind of car diesel will work, but a car designed to take gasoline will not work with diesel
