Title: 'Scuse me! I have to vent/rant! (admins can lock this as soon as I post it...)
Post by: Corhellion on August 19, 2003, 12:05:47 am
Well...I have to vent off a little bit of steam...Here's the story...

...I'm an AFOL (Adult Fan of Lego) and a bit of a Star Wars nut too...so I ussually build stuff pretaining to the SW Universe...

Anyways...I've been building the SSD out of lego...link is here btw: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=36936

...anyways...I was surfing around on Brickshelf (place where hundreds of people can post thier creations for free)...when I came across this folder: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=53804

...first thought when I looked at that: *gulp* HOLY ****E!

...second thought: ...****...Someone made it...and perfected it before me...:hopping: :hopping:

I feel as if I can't finish what I have started on the 3rd version...it sucks...I hate it that he beat me too it...I ****ING HATE IT THAT I ALWAYS ****ING WELL GET ****ING WELL BEATEN BY SOMEONE ELSE AND THAT THEY ALWAYS MAKE SOMETHING BIGGER AND BETTER THAN MINE.

****!!!!

:hopping:

...It sucks...I hate my life...nothing ever turns out right...well...almost nothing...all the girlfriends I ever had have ditched me for someone else...everything...in my life...sucks...*thinks*...except FS1 and FS2...

...well...I guess that's it...

Admins can lock this...just needed to vent that's all...

Thank you for your time...

Cor

a star destroyer? You can just get the official model (if you have the cash, that is), which from what I have heard is gigantic, probably as big as that model.

Anyway, that other thing is a cool MOC, although it doesn't look like much more than a display model. But if you really want big things, take a look at this one:

http://www.legotrucks.com/dennisbosman/html/intro/cmno04.html

(he says this thing is 13.7 feet high when fully extended)

But anyway, I don't think that good models are necessarily big, nor the converse. It's better to pack more functionality into a smaller space if possible.

What themes are you into? I mostly build space stuff on minifig scale along with just about anything technic, and I am also into some town, aquazone and model team things. Scored an unopened 6987 message intercept base recently, but I paid through the nose for it even though it was much cheaper than the usual prices for that set.

I need to try building some FS fighters sometime; the shivan color scheme would look excellent, and those destroyer droids included in a few of the star wars sets actually look a bit like shivans.

The other guy spelled his wrong.. that and it looks like he literally cut n' pasted.

Either way, uh.. it's just legos, and I'd assume your (ex)girl-friends weren't as into them as you are. Life sucks, if you can't handle it, get a helmet.

Just get that official 10030 (http://www.brickset.com/search.aspx?Query=10030) model. Very, very expensive and little more than a display model, but people say it looks imposing and is worth it for the truckload of pieces alone. I will probably get one if I can find it on clearance somewhere, although I first want to acquire a metroliner pack and possibly another 8455 backhoe set, and I definitely don't have enough space in my room for it at the moment anyway.

Was I not the person who said, on the PCG forum, "Coursework is a waste of time. Lego is far more important, as it develops practical skills"?

yeah, I wouldn't buy it for the original price, but these large sets have a way of getting into clearance sales at retail outlets. Its price-for-piece ratio is still quite good and is comparable to most other sets; there are tons of plates, wings, 1x16 beams and gear racks, which makes it great for space and technic heads like myself. If I can find it for about $50 less then I will probably pick it up just for the wealth of parts.

Out of these model sets though, I think the 7181 TIE Interceptor is overall better, as it is much stronger and has a better color scheme and interior design (and is also built on minifig scale so you can put a pilot or something inside), although the price/piece ratio is about the same.

Here's a crazy thought-- If originality was one of the objectives of your magnum opus, then perhaps you should have selected a subject other than one of the most recognizable icons from one of the highest-grossing motion pictures in the history of the universe.

Hey Cor! I never knew you were an AFOL. I wish I was but I don't have the physical space yet. :blah: I'm still going to order the AT-AT though.

I have to say, Lego was one of the most significant driving forces behind my success in school. It also had an impact on my Freespace modeling; I like to build things then play with them. :D You can read all about it in my autobiography, Lego and Freespace: How Peter Oliver Became the Most Famous, Wealthy, and Successful Architect Ever being published in 2052.
